You wait for the light to change and cross the street. Most of the people you see are talking on cell phones or rushing into buildings. There’s one gray-haired man in a dark suit leaning against a tall column. As you walk past, he glances up from his paper and offers a fleeting smile before resuming reading. You stop. Maybe he can offer some help? At least, he might be able to direct you to a police station or a hospital.
Approach the man or keep your distance?
