  1. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. transfer me baby! new incentive to upload more of “marked”…fresh start…
this is awesome, guys. can’t wait to play around this weekend. celebration on monday?

  2. Tripped over the article in the NY Times, on my phone. spent all night researching your site. I’m telling all my few friends on facebook πŸ˜›
I can hardly wait to see where this goes!

(I’m old-school… I HAVE to sign my letters… It just seems like proper manners to me. not gonna outgrow it.)

  3. Thank you to all the people who made this possible!!! Guys, let’s make and pray this goes on and on and on like the energizer bunny. LOL. Not just for aspiring writers to help them in their creative processes but to all literature lovers out there. Let’s keep literature alive even in this media savvy age.

Again thanks to everyone who are behind this endeavor. More power to you guys (and thanks NYTimes for directing me here through that nice article).

    Four thumbs up!

  4. I would like to post your launch on Facebook — particularly for my granddaughter who is turning 15 and in rebellious teen mode. She and her friends need something constructive, creative and FUN to get them going in a positive direction.

Do you have a link to Facebook that I can use to spread the good Word?

    Congratulations and best regards,
    Bev

  5. love the idea for this site! glad i read about it on nytimes.com. however, reading is kinda difficult… why canΒ΄t i scroll down more than half a page?

  6. I read the article in the nytimes and couldn’t resist checking it out. This site is amazing. Although not the first, the graphics are great and its completely clear!
I really love it. I’ve already begun to spread the word to friends πŸ™‚

  7. Hi, I am a little over the “target” age of this effort, however I am delighted to have found something like this.

Oh my goorness what a great idea.

See you around the corner, and meow.

  8. Congratulations on the launch. I’ve been getting tweets from The Book Maven about this site, and am impressed thus far on the design & focus on free speech posting for the budding writers among us. I look forward to contributing in what ways I can.

  9. I’m a teen librarian and I’ll make sure that the kids know about this website. In January my writers group is issuing a challenge to write a book in a year. Your website will certainly come in handy!

  10. Don’t know if this is the right place to be commenting about the layout of the website, but could you make it so that you don’t have to scroll left to right when reading on mobile devices a la wikipedia, it’s so annoying when reading a long piece.

    Aside from that, great idea!

    Victor.

  11. I think it’s a great idea! I’m distracted by the visual aesthetic of the site, though. It’s a little too “Target/Macy’s Christmas Sale Extravangaza.”

Maybe something a little more.. functional?

  12. As a journalism student fed up with social networking sites, finding this was truly a breath of fresh air. Now how to balance the daily work load with a potential new obsession…

  13. This is seriously the greatest idea ever! I am from Macedonia but I love writing in English.. and I don’t really have that many friends who want to read English stories or poems.. so this is like the perfect site for me xD thanks for creating it xD

  14. I, too, am a little above the target age group of this site, but despite my being a 20-something I’m a teen at heart, and will continue to read these early works of tomorrow’s published authors.

I wish something like this had been around when I was younger.

Kudos to all who made this possible.

  15. This is waaaaaaay better than facebook! I mean, really, facebook is not the place to jumpstart a career or even a hobby in writing.
I am so happy you made this site!
    ^-^

  16. GREAT. I teach ESL in NYC and in South Asia and hope this will be another great tool for my students use while they read, write, and speak in English about what they discover on Figment. Thanks and congratulations.

  17. I just joined- I’ve been looking for a site like this (other than fictionpress.com, obviously) and this looks great!

I hope it all goes well- I’ll start posting soon.

  18. read the article in the nyt today and think it’s a great idea. forwarded it and the site to two young creatives who, i think, will enjoy it. as a writer who bloomed very late i relish this kind of encouragement for young people. mazal tov.

  19. Came across this in the NYT article I was using to procrastinate. Looks pretty interesting. Never really thought there were enough other literary teens out there to make a group. I’m very very happy to see that there are. =)

  20. Dear ‘Figment’,

I read about this in the NY times as well! Truly a brillant idea. I’m only sad that something like this hadn’t been around earlier. What a wonderful way to cultivate minds: using a medium that is inherent to them (the internet) and daring them to do something different.

I really, really appreciate it. Too many people are afraid to realize the voices they could have. Thank you for providing such an excellent medium.

  21. Personally, I think this site is marvelous. It offers a great opportunity for writers and qoutidian people alike,to write, and unleash their creativity through words and syntax. Writing on this website is also a good way of getting feedback on one’s stories, and writing. This can especially be beneficial to an aspiring writer who is looking to ameliorate their style, or format of writing.

  22. I can safely say that I will visit this site at least twice a day because I am a nerd who will probably never become a writer but likes to think she will πŸ™‚ and it is amazing.

  23. My friend saw the article and forwarded me the link –
the site seems like an amazing idea! I hope it becomes popular enough to become practical.
After having to sort through failed adult writers on sites like RedBubble to find teenage talent I can talk to, I’m excited to find a social literature site for my generation.

    Jake
    (I sign letters too,
    and I’m 14 xD)

  24. I am in love with this website! I think the entire idea, a place for people to have their work reviewed and commented on by other literature lovers, is ingenious! I have been looking for this exact sort of thing! Thank you!

  25. So far, I like what I see. This could be a really cool site. Um…one thing you should look at is allowing people to delete comments on their own writing. Either that or be able to report things like on Facebook. I posted a chapter of a story I’ve written, and then someone who obviously hadn’t even read it (because I had only posted it a couple minutes before) left an extremely rude comment on it. I deleted the whole chapter. I’ll probably re-post it later, but you should consider that that might happen. Not everyone on here is going to be nice and friendly and be using this site for the right reasons.

    • Thanks, Anna. This is definitely something that we’re developing for the future. I’m really sorry that happened to you. I’m keeping a close eye on those types of things, and I’ll try to make sure it doesn’t happen again! Thanks, Lindsay

  26. yaaay!! my mom actually sent this to article at nytimes to me, and a couple clicks and here i am!! can’t WAIT to post my own writing!

  27. this is a great improvement of all-poetry.com. i wish the text boxes expanded more. it’s tough to see what you’ve written. the book covers are cute. but, even at the smallest size, i can’t get my name on the cover. the overall site design is a little bit too busy. good effort, though. thanks.

  28. Hi! Just wondering when I might be able to read more of the Rockstar book. My girlfriend and I love it so far…:)!

  29. Fabulous idea! I’ve been waiting for a site like this for a long time, and I’m proud to say I joined on the first day it waas launched! I’m very excited to upload more of my work over the weekend.

    -Abigail

  30. I just saw your article at the newspaper and found myself searching for your website, i hope you would continue to improve this site. πŸ˜€

CONGRATULATIONS figment! i hope this site goes on and on and on!~ πŸ˜€

  31. I was thinking of starting A site like this not too long ago. πŸ™‚
Thank you for making this!! I’m A “Newbie”, but I love what this site is about!!I love to write, inspire, and be inspired!! Hope to make “Pen-pals” here!! πŸ™‚

  32. Thank you for starting this! This is cool.
I’m psyched. This is really awesome. Movement to nickname the users of the site Figments?

  33. This website is perfect for aspiring writers like myself, however, I feel like it talks down to teenagers a bit. The idea is great and the approach is great, but phrases like “zomg” and “heart this” while I understand are meant to appeal to the age group, make it look like a sight aimed more at the 10-12 age group. A more reserved mature look appropriate for people of a wider age and personality range, I think would be a little better. Just a thought, but otherwise, I’m so grateful to have something like this!

  34. Great site, but I think that friends on this site should be called ‘Figs’.

I have spoke to many people who also believe that this would be a great improvement.

    Thank you for your time.

  35. Love it! Briliant concept, excellently executed. I’m telling all of my Facebook contacts about it tonight…probably half of them are writers of one stripe or another. My daughter is just shy of 16, and one of the best writers I know. She’s getting involved, too. Thanks, Lindsay!

  36. This website is a fantastic idea, and I like it a lot. I, however, have been having trouble uploading some of my already written work. Do you have to write everything on the site, or is there a place to upload?
