Readergirlz and Figment are thrilled to announce our partnership in celebrating YALSA’s Support Teen Literature Day, which is coming up this Thursday, April 14th! Readergirlz has hosted Operation Teen Book Drop since 2007; this year, Figment is taking part in encouraging readers around the world to drop a YA book in their own community to celebrate Support Teen Lit Day.
The way it works: everyone who’s interested in participating will “drop” a YA book of their choosing (old, new, borrowed, even blue — there are no restrictions on the book you choose to donate, except that it should be in good enough condition to read) somewhere in their community; participants should download the bookplate below and leave it inside their book. Once you find a good place to leave your book, let it free; ideally it will be found and then adopted by a grateful reader, all while increasing awareness of Support Teen Lit Day. If all goes according to plan, people around the world should be finding copies of the best literature in unexpected places, gifted out of love for YA lit. Everyone can participate to raise awareness of the day!
Here are the complete steps to participating in Rock the Drop:
* Print a copy of a bookplate that you can download here and insert it into a book (or 10!) that you’ll drop on April 14th. Drop a book in a public spot (try to be creative: will you leave it on a park bench? A bus seat? Perhaps a restaurant counter?) and you’re done. Lucky finders will see that the book is part of Rock the Drop!
* Snap a photo of your drop and email email@example.com with the pic — we’ll be posting lots of pictures of drops happening all over the world, and our friends at readergirlz will also be featuring the event!
* Click here to download a banner created by the uber-talented David Ostow. Add it to your website, linking back to this post to share the love, and proclaim that you will indeed Rock the Drop next week!
Love writing? Love reading? Love YA? Then join Figment and the Readergirlz in celebrating Support Teen Lit Day, and Rock the Drop!
