POTTERMORE Day 5: Tips and clues

It’s the end of Day 5 in the quest for entry into the mysterious world of Pottermore, J.K. Rowling’s new site for Harry Potter uber-fans.

Pottermore is “a unique online reading experience created by J.K. Rowling and built around the Harry Potter books,” according the Pottermore website. The site will also sell the digital audio books and eBooks (which have never been sold before previously). So it’s social networking, gaming, and a store…probably. But we don’t know much!

The site opens in October for everyone, but THIS WEEK, you can get on the site early. But it’s not easy…

Every day from July 31 until August 6, you visit www.pottermore.com at a specific time for a trivia question. Each trivia question is from a different book. After you answer the question, you put the answer after the URL http://quill.pottermore.com.

Here was Day 1 (Sorcerer’s Stone):

“How many breeds of owls were offered on the Eeylops Owl Emporium sign, then multiply this number by 49.”

The answer: 245

Day 2 (Chamber of Secrets):

“What is the number of the chapter in which Professor McGonagall cancels the Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff?
Multiply this number by 42.”

The answer: 588

Day 3 (Prisoner of Azkaban):

Take the number of points Gryffindor was leading Slytherins in the Qudditch match in Book 3, multiply that by 35.

Answer: 2100

This one was a little different in that after you entered http://quill.pottermore.com/2100, it took you to a Guardian article. On the right hand side was what LOOKED like an advertisement, but was really the gateway to the registration page. It was like a Flash game. You had to move your mouse from right to left quickly in order to levitate a feather, and if you levitated it all the way to the top, you got the link to register.

Day 4 (Goblet of Fire):

How many contestant were there in the Triwizard Tournament when Harry Potter was at Hogwarts? Multiply by 28.

Answer: 112

I heard that they had some issues with this day, but we were able to sign up for an account.

Day 5 (Order of the Phoenix):

What is the house number of the Headquarters for The Order of the Phoenix in Grimmauld Place?
Multiply this number by 21.

Answer: 252

GO TO http://quill.pottermore.com/252, look at the ad at the top of the page!

If you’re lucky enough to get the chance to register, you’ll get this!

Tomorrow (8/4/11) the question will be released between 1:30pm and 4.00pm BST BST (7:30am ET to 10am ET)….so keep refreshing www.pottermore.com for the clue! It will be about Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
