  1. I FREAKING LOVE SHANNON HALE!!! Ah!!!! Princess Academy is one of my favorite books of all time! I’m not even kidding!!! When I saw it in the features, I screamed out loud! I read the book when it was released and I’ve since hoped for a movie. Miri is my favorite character of all time and I completely identify with her. !!!

  2. This contest looks awesome! But I have a question. Are the entries allowed to have more than one chapter, as long as it stays within the word limit?

    Thank you so much! πŸ™‚

    • We ask that contestants create new entries, but feel free to use old ideas! Let me know if you have any other questions- esteele at figment.com

  3. I LOVE SHANNON HALE!! AHHH! She’s amazing-ingazing-ing!.. Will she read the winning entries? omg i’m so excited.. hehheheeh. <3 <3 <3

  4. Are we allowed to delete entries, then make new ones? Cause I don’t really like my story, and I wanna try something else.

  5. Hi! One more question (and this is about future contests too) : Is it self-promotion if I ask someone to do a cover for me? Will I get disqualified?

  6. I just finished, and I’m really proud of it! πŸ˜€ But… It’s 1594 words. Will this mean it gets disqualified?

  7. OH MY GOSH I LOVE THE PRINCESS ACADEMY!! One of my favorite books. Ive read it a bunch of times. Must come up with idea for contest…..

    • If it’s a prince/princess that is fairly well-known (like Snow White), then no. But if you’re still a little unsure about it, just add a mention in the description of your book so readers will be aware of it. Feel free to email me at Maria@Figment.com if you have any other questions.

  8. Is our entry allowed to be a new spin on an old fairytale? Does a fairytale have to have a disclaimer? Or are fariytales public domain??
    Thank you, hardworking moderators!

    • Hi Jenna

Yes, you can spin off a fairy tale! It wouldn’t need a disclaimer, but you can mention the fairy tale you’re drawing from in the book description, if you like. Feel free to email me at Maria@Figment.com if you have any other questions.

  9. the Princess Academy is one of my favorite books! (and I LOVE princess bride) I don’t think I can do this contest justice! though I can’t wait to read the other entries….

  10. Sounds fun! I finished my entry a few hours ago, and I think it might have a chance! You know, if I can find a way to get people to read it without self-promoting… πŸ™‚

  11. I love the Princess Academy.

And I love the fact that you used a picture of Princess Buttercup (even though she’s one of the blandest characters, it’s still the best movie ever.)

And I am going to try so hard to even come up with a decent idea, because I love this contest. But I’m having massive writer’s block right now.

  12. Can I use a normal person put in a princess’s situation? Like, she’s normal, and then everyone treats her like a princess in a different world type thing???

  13. It’s kind of weird… she’s normal, but then she reads a book and gets transported to this place where she’s dressed as the princess, and everyone thinks she is. It’s not a typical princess story, but she is supposed to be a princess in this place…

  14. Quick question. I was writing a story for a contest on the forums and, lo and behold!, it has a princess in it. I was just wondering, could I put the story up for both contests? Or is this one strictly exclusive?

    Thanks πŸ™‚

    • Hi Nichole

We ask that contestants create new content for each contest, so you wouldn’t be able to use the same entry for both contests. You can certainly use older ideas of yours, though. Sorry!

  15. the princess bride is the BEST movie EVER!!!
um, yeah, am i spamming the contest page? just thought i’d say that…

  16. I LOVE both the Princess Bride and Princess Academy. The thing I don’t like about contests is that they just give me an idea and I have to start writing, no planning involved. It makes for fairly random stories to come out of my fingers! I really hope my entry gets at least a few hearts, despite my not being known very well on here.

  17. By prince/princess, can it be figuratively, or does it have to be an actual prince or princess? Like, an actual son/daughter of a King and Queen?

  18. So…reading the comments I saw that have to be an actual prince/princess, so does Snape the Half-Blood Prince count? He’s not royalty or anything, but you said something about an artist known as Prince, so I think it counts, because he’s known as a Half-Blood Prince?

  19. If the character has to play a prince or princess in a play, does that count too? Or do they have to actually be the prince or princess?

  20. In my story a girl is kidnapped, and throughout it relates her life to the bedtime fairy tales her mother used to tell to her. When she is finally rescued, she calls her rescuer her ‘Knight in Shining Armor’, and herself a ‘Princess’. It’s set in modern time so she isn’t actually a Princess… you’ve said above that that means it won’t count, but I wanted to make sure before I delete it.

  21. Can it be a fictional prince/princess/royal person? Or do they have to actually exist/have been created by other people previously?

  22. Can it be about someone who is a real princess, but not by blood? Like because of some weird turn of events, she is now a princess?

  23. Hello…. I see that it say’s the deadline is 11:59 pm AUG 15th..
Does that mean that if I post my entry before that time, today, I am still eligible. ?

  24. I do have one more question…
The deadline for the upload is 11:59 pm AUG 15th. Today….
Can I edit my item after this date and still be qualified?

So… If I upload and tag the item for the contest, and then go and read it in the morning, or look at it, etc. and see something I wanted to correct, a grammar mistake I missed, etc.

    Can I do this?

    ~ K.A.E

    • Hi K.A.E.

We ask that no edits be made to the actual content of your entry after the deadline has passed.

(Also, I just responded to your email. Sorry for the delay!)

  25. If I have an entry already, but I want to delete it and put up another that’s different, is that okay? As long as it’s before the time, right? Thanks!

    • Hi Ann

Yes, as long as the other entry is untagged or deleted, you can post a new entry. Just make sure it’s done before the deadline (which is midnight) or your entry won’t make the cutoff. Feel free to email me at Maria@Figment.com if you have any other questions. Best of luck!

  26. Okay, so I’m new to this website and really want to enter the contest. I just wrote a short story that meets with all the requirements and signed up. How do I publish my story? Thanks for your help!

    • Hi Katie

All you have to do is go to the “content” section of your book and click on the “publish” button at the bottom of the page. If you have more than one chapter, you would have to publish each chapter in order for it to be visible to readers. Feel free to email me at Maria@Figment.com if you have any other questions. Best of luck!

  27. how will you know who the top 15 are? will you go through every story to check the hearts or do u have a program that sorts it out by hearts?

    • Hi Myah,

If you use the search box in the upper right corner of the page you will see that you can search for tags. Once you search for letthemeatfigs you can sort it by most hearted. πŸ˜€

    • Hi Myah

We can see the most hearted in order. You can also see them by searching for the contest tag on Figment and choosing “most hearted” from the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
