Writing for Relief with Deborah Ellis Winner

Congratulations to the winner of Deborah Ellis’s Writing for Relief promotion: Hannah C. with her story “Four Eyes.”

We asked you to go through your Figment writings and think about the important social issues you’ve discussed in them, and then connect those stories to a specific organization. In “Four Eyes,” Hannah writes about the damaging stereotypes that surround young women who wear glasses–why can’t a girl be considered to look both smart and beautiful? Must one necessarily negate the other?

Hannah was inspired by her writing to point us in the direction of an outstanding organization: Girls Inc., where all girls are valued for their strength, intelligence, and inner beauty. Check them out, and get inspired in turn.
