For the Harris Burdick Contest, we asked you to write a story inspired by the description of an empty room and this line: “He’d always known about the staircase. It simply hadn’t been time yet.”
Congratulations to these 10 wildly creative entries (that helped us catch H. Burdick, by the way)! They will be sent to the editorial staff of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for judging, so stay tuned for the winners!
The finalists, in no particular order, are:
“The Cottage” by Amme Airotciv
“The ColorKeeper” by Destiny Howell
“The Ivy Room” by Bellethiel Daugon
“He’d Always Known” by Alissa K.
“Up” by Danielle Langel
“Blue Stairs” by Nox Zand
“Door Lord” by G. Gómez
“The Next One” by Alexes
“Destined Ascent” by Lilly Richmond
“Terminal” by Anna Christiano
Thanks to everyone who entered the contest!
