The college years. You hear they’re supposed to be the best years of your life. If you’re living them, that makes you nervous as hell. If you’re anticipating them, that makes you eager as hell. If you’ve finished them, that makes you depressed as hell. Whether you’re before, during, or after, college represents a time of discovery, angst, and all-around revelry.
When Andrea Marr, the star of Dream School (which you can read an excerpt of here on Figment for a limited time) and the ’90’s classic Girl, gets accepted to the prestigious and famously preppy Wellington College, she can’t wait to leave her native Portland and fly into the unknown of her freshman year. But while the search for her people—the wild, the weird, and the brilliant—takes her on an exhilarating ride past hipster artists, intimidating professors, and outspoken party animals, Andrea’s biggest achievement is finding herself.
Your challenge: in no more than 1,200 words, write a story about a character that goes to college. Submit your entry by December 21 at 11:59 p.m ET. Then you get to decide the 10 finalists by voting on your favorite entries.
