Today’s Daily Theme writing prompt comes from none other than Dana Goodyear, one of the founders of Figment. Dana is a staff writer for The New Yorker, and she teaches in the Master of Professional Writing Program at the University of Southern California. She’s also the author of a poetry collection, Honey and Junk. Dana’s writing prompt is all about character–give it a try!

Approach a friend or an acquaintance who seems to have some time to spare. Ask them to empty their pockets or purse, and take notes on the origins and significance of everything you see. Then write a short profile of this person based only on their belongings.
