Win $500 from Figment and Zinch!

What’s black and white and read all over?

Your 600 character flash-memoir, and it’s being read all over by Jonathan Safran Foer, author of the recently Oscar nominated-movied Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (which you can start reading here on Figment)!

We’re teaming up with Zinch, a website that connects students to scholarships just waiting to be won. In addition to being Foer-ized, your mini-memoir could earn you $500 for school!  Are you in or heading to college? There’s no reason NOT to enter.

Head to Zinch’s site and in 600 characters (not words) or fewer, write about your coming-of-age moment–an instant or incident that made you feel more grown up and, you know, a little more of-age.

Ten finalists will be chosen by Zinch, and their stories will be read by Jonathan Safran Foer, who will pick the winner. Besides the $500 top prize, five runners-up will receive copies of Extremely Loud & Incredibly CloseFigment tote bags, and Zinch prize-packs. This contest is open to all high school and college students in the U.S. Eligible contestants have until March 31 to enter, so hop to it!

**Remember- this scholarship opportunity is hosted on Zinch, so all your entry-ing is going to be done there!

  1. On the Figment website it states that entries must be 600 characters, but on the Zinch website, it says the story must be 500 characters. Should the story be 500 or 600 characters?

    • Hi Aviva! Where are you seeing on the Zinch site that it says “500 words?”

To clarify, all entries should be 600 characters or fewer (this includes spaces and punctuation).

  2. I hit enter on the contest page and for some reason it just led me back to the page I entered all the info on. Does that mean it submitted? Was that supposed to happen?

  3. So I can’t enter even though I’ll be in high school this fall and the entry page lists my graduation year (2016)?

  4. Hey, have the winners of this contest been announced yet? I haven’t heard anything and I am extremely curious.
