600 Characters, 500 Dollars

If you could use $500 to put towards your education (and who couldn’t?), write your 600-word memoir for Zinch. Mega author Jonathan Safran Foer–author of Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (which you can begin reading for a limited time on Figment here)–will be judging the entries. You have until March 31 to enter. Good luck, Figs!

  1. i signed up for it and pressed enter to win but some red thing came above the screen and said you can have up to 600 characters. That’s absurd can’t you just tell me if my memoir was submitted or not?

    • Hey May-

That probably means that your entry was too long. You only have 600 characters to write, so make sure you keep it short! Let me know if you have any further questions.

    • Hey Brenda-

The entries all have to be read and judged, so there winners will be announced after that time.

      Best,
      Emily

  2. It asks for your graduation year of high school, leading me to think that the coming-of-age stories should be centered around high school/hs graduation time-frame. But what if your coming of age happened while in college? Is that acceptable or will it be frowned upon?

    • Hey Forell-
It asks for your graduation year to verify that you are eligible for the contest. Only high school students planning on attending college and current college students may apply.
