Gift Flash-Fiction Contest

You’re a high school student. You’re trying to figure out how to make friends, pass tests, and get the cute boy in band to notice you. You’re also haunted by creepy dreams, messages from the beyond, and a dangerous, secret power you’re not sure you can control.

What, that last bit doesn’t sound familiar?

Well, it’s the life of Daisy Jones, uncertain heroine of Andrea J. Buchanan’s novel: Gift. In honor of the book, we’re hosting a flash-fiction contest! Ten winners will receive a free download of Giftincluding bonus features like a graphic novel and access to the private journal of Daisy’s best friend, Danielle.

Your challenge: In 200 words or fewer, write a story about communicating with someone from “the beyond.” That could be a ghost, a guardian angel, a figure from an alternate universe, someone from a past life—it’s up to you!

Figment’s editorial team will choose 10 winners who will each receive a free download of Gift. (Winners will be able to choose among Kindle, iBook, NOOK, or Google Play editions.)

You’ve got until 11:59 p.m. ET on April 29 to enter, so get writing!

1. Read the full rules here.
2. Create an account on Figment.com.
3. Start a new writing of 200 words or fewer.
4. Tag your writing with GiftFlash on the Details tab.
5. Press “Publish Now.”
6. You should receive a pop-up confirmation of your entry, and in about two hours or so, your piece should appear among the submissions.

  1. What if you win and you don’t have any of the electronic stuff for reading books but you MIGHT get one soon. Can you just get a copy of the book or can i wait until i possible get a kindle?

    • Hey Ashley-

The prize must be collected as a download, but you can read most ebook formats on your computer as well as on an eReader.

  2. If the winners have already been announced where do we find them? If not, where WILL we find them?
