A Mash-Up of Epic Proportions

Seth Grahame-Smith is the king of mash-ups.

Regency novel plus paranormal? Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

History meets horror? Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Religious text added to an action movie? Unholy Night, which you can start reading on Figment now.

In honor of Seth’s master mixing skills, we’ve got a contest for you: write a story in which two genres collide and you could win signed copies of Unholy Night! Whether it’s a steampunk Western, a Shakespeare story set in outer space, or a tender  coming-of-age werewolf tale, get your mash-up mash on and enter now!

How to Enter:

1. Read the full rules.
2. Create an account on Figment.com.
3. Start a new writing of 1,200 words or fewer.
4. Tag your writing with UnholyMash on the Details tab.
5. Press “Publish Now.”
6. You should receive a pop-up confirmation of your entry, and in about two hours or so, your piece should appear among the submissions.

You’ve got until 11:59 p.m. ET on May 28 to publish and tag your story. Voting will run until 5:00 p.m. ET on June 5 at which point the ten most-hearted entries will be judged by a Grand Central editor. The grand-prize winner will receive a signed, that’s right, signed copy of Unholy Night and a $10 Amazon giftcard. Second place will receive a signed copy of Unholy Night and a Figment tote bag. Third place will receive a signed copy of Unholy Night.

  1. We can’t write a story where… three genres collide, can we?
I’m so tempted to make this a completely random story xD

    • As long as the story was created after the announcement of the contest, published before the end of the contest, and tagged correctly, you’re set!

  2. This contest should be closed and no more hearts should be accepted… I am not sure if this is being monitored. But, when could we expect the results?

    • Hey-

Only hearts earned before the conclusion of the entry period will be counted. No set timeline for announcing the results!
