Lisa D’Amato smized with the best of them on cycle 5 of America’s Next Top Model before returning last fall to strut her stuff to victory as the winner of America’s Next Top Model All Stars. This model-slash-musician recently rocked the pages of Italian Vogue and released her second electro-rap (yeah, it’s a thing) album.
Though she’s busy touring up and down the country, Lisa took time to dish with us about what she reads when she’s on the road and what she’d absolutely LOVE to see on a date’s bookshelf. Check out her answers below and remember to tune in to new episodes of ANTM Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW!
What’s the book that you’re proudest of having finished?
Since I have been traveling a lot I’ve been reading quite a lot! I just finished Chelsea Handler’s book Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. I also read Modelland by Tyra Banks and Marilyn: The Last Take by Peter Harry Brown and Patte B. Barham. All through my childhood and teens I read every one of V.C. Andrews‘ books! I was obsessed.
Have you ever lied about having read a book to impress someone? (If yes, what was the book and why?)
In grade school, junior high, and high school, I only read about 50% of the books that were assigned. There was always a lot going on at home, in my house, so school came second, unfortunately. I feel really cheated because of that. Although I do remember reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and I LOVED IT! So, yeah, I lied about it in school. I never lied about reading a book to impress a crush or anything, though.
What’s the one book that you’ve sworn to read before you die?
I really wanted to read Water for Elephants, but I could never focus for some reason. I’ll have to read that one again and concentrate. I tried watching the movie but couldn’t watch anymore when they would abuse the elephant. :[
What are your five “desert island” books?
Hmm… I think I’d much rather build things or make huts and fish than read a book. Maybe I’ll make a volleyball my best friend. Haha, but, if I had only a few books I’d hope they were V.C. Andrews books. They are so good!!! It’d bring me back to when I was a kid, and I’d escape through them.
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Who?
Bravo in Modelland was super sweet and saw past all the superficial bull, which was really cute. My latest fictional character crush was Bravo for sure.
If you could play any character from a book, who would you choose?
That is a great question! I think I have the hutzpa to play the villain or the hero. :-] Both would be super fun too. Being part of bringing a story alive would be amazing!
Do you have a book on you right now? What is it?
I don’t actually. I’ve been editing videos on airplanes lately. I’m always welcome to suggestions though. A good read is always amazing :-]
What’s the best book to give to someone you secretly want to ask out?
Hmm….How To Be a Gentleman for Dummies would be a good start. Haha! Just kidding. More men should read good books. I do remember showing a crush my Astrological Birthday Book WHICH I LOVE!! He wasn’t into it, though. In that book, his birthday described him to a T!! It was so funny.
What’s the one book that would be a deal-breaker if you saw it on a date’s bookshelf?
I don’t know about books that would turn me off, but I’m always impressed when I see Deepak Chopra’s books on a boy’s shelf or something of that nature. It’s a beautiful thing when people seek inspiration to having a more positive and spiritual outlook on life.
What’s a book that’s made you:
Blush: Dawn by V.C. Andrews. I was 12 years old [ish] when I read it. The character Dawn lost her virginity in the book…I couldn’t believe it!
Shiver: Modelland, when I read about Tookie’s mother….she’s a lot like my mother.
Cry: All of them, mostly.
Laugh out loud: Chelsea Handler’s Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang
