Handsome Coffee Flash-Fiction Contest Day Two

Writers young and old, amateur and professional, serious and frivolous, are all fueled by one thing and one thing alone . . .

Coffee.

It is the gas in our cars. The juice in our batteries. The fairy dust in our magic wand. It’s that essential writerly sustenance.

And so we’ve teamed up with our mustachioed and bearded barista buds at Handsome Coffee Roasters to bring you a highly caffeinated five-day flash fiction contest. You can tell a lot about a person based on his or her coffee habits. So every day this week, we’ll ask you to create a character based on how they take their coffee.

Today’s Prompt:
In 100 words or fewer write about a character who is trying to give up coffee. Tag your story HandsomeCoffee and CaffeineFiend2.

How To Enter:

1. Read the full rules.
2. Create an account on Figment.com.
3. Start a new writing of 100 words or fewer.
4. Tag your writing with HandsomeCoffee and CaffeineFiend2 on the Details tab.
5. Press “Publish Now.”
6. You should receive a pop-up confirmation of your entry, and in about two hours or so, your piece should appear among the submissions.

You only have 24 hours, so be sure to tag your story by 10a.m. ET on June 6, 2012 for your chance to win. Each day, the Figment editors will be choosing one lucky winner to receive a bag of primo Roaster’s Choice beans from Handsome Coffee!

Psst! We’re also hosting a Handsome Coffee sweepstakes. Enter here!

  1. That fatal moment of brainstorming where all you need to decide is if you are going to take the more realistic, funny route or a more fantastic one.

  2. Am I the only one who immediately thought of the Korean drama “Coffee Prince” after reading “Handsome Coffee Roasters?”

  3. I wrote a novel that’s over 100,000 pages…and I don’t drink coffee. At all.
Are you saying I’m the only coffee-free writer?

    • Definitely not until the contest is over! 😛 But really, there’s no set timeline to announce contest winners and we’re unable to provide a specific date or deadline.
