Unbreak My Heart Flash-Fiction Week: Day Three

Thanks to Clem’s fantastic musical taste, which is on full display in Melissa Walker’s Unbreak My Heart, you’ve already been introduced to “Beautiful Girl” by INXS and “Must I Paint You a Picture” by Billy Bragg. Clem turns to music when she’s ostracized from her social circle after falling for her best friend’s boyfriend. To make matters worse, her parents have decided that their family is going to spend the whole summer together. On a sailboat. Unable to escape her broken heart or her family, Clem turns to her iPod for solace.

On the playlist that Clem made for Ethan (the aforementioned best friend’s boyfriend), Clem includes “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver. Revealing, right?

Today’s Prompt:

Write a story of 150 words or fewer inspired by “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver.

‘Girl from the North Country,’ ‘Skinny Love,’ ‘Last Goodbye’!” She laughed loudly, her eyes wide. “These are your favorites. You’re totally in love with someone! Who is it?”
I started to sweat. I could actually feel wetness pooling in my armpits. Gross, but true. “It’s just a playlist I was thinking about,” I said.
