Infinity Flash Fiction Week: Day Four

Adam, the main character of Infinity—the final book in Rachel Ward’s Numbers trilogy—knows when you’re going to die. The moment he meets a new person, a date pops into his head, and that’s it—the day you die. His wife, Sarah, can sense how you’re going to die. Their baby, Mia, can swap her death-date with other people’s—and may just hold the key to eternal life.

Inspired by the ominous dates of Infinity, we’re hosting a weeklong flash-fiction contest in which we challenge you to dream up tales set on specific dates. So far, we’ve traveled to December 25, 4023; June 10, 6000 B.C.E.; and December 31, 1924. Where will you head next? Your challenge: Write a story of 100 words or fewer, set on this date:

Today’s Date: June 14, 2013

You have until 11:59 p.m. ET on June 15, 2012 to enter. The Figment team will choose the 10 best entries from the entire week and send them to Rachel, who will choose one grand-prize winner to receive copies of Numbers, The Chaos, and Infinity, and a $25 Amazon gift card. For every daily prompt, the Figment team will also choose one winning entry. Each of those five writers will receive copies of Numbers, Chaos, and Infinity.

How to Enter:

1. Read the full rules.
2. Create an account on Figment.com.
3. Start a new writing of 100 words or fewer.
4. Tag your writing with InfinityFlashContest and NumbersFlash4 on the Details tab.
5. Press “Publish Now.”
6. You should receive a pop-up confirmation of your entry, and in about two hours or so, your piece should appear among the submissions.

  1. I have a question. What date was their baby Mia born? I want to write something with her when she’s older but I don’t know what date she was born.
