If you’ve ever wondered what Peter Parker looked like before he was the web-slinging, crime-fighting, wise cracking Spider-Man — you’re in for a treat! Max Charles, who plays young Peter in the The Amazing Spider-Man (which comes out July 3!) is not only simply adorable and totally talented, but he’s also something of a veteran actor for an almost-9-year-old. With roles on everything from HBO’s True Blood to NBC’s Community, to his turn in the recent The Three Stooges movie, Max is well on his way to giving his adult Spidey counterpart Andrew Garfield a run for his money. And when he’s not memorizing lines, Max is a serious reader, so he was happy to swing by Figment to share some of his favorite books with us!
What’s the book that you’re proudest of having finished?
I read a LOT so I don’t have a favorite, but I always feel pretty proud after reading a full script. I read lots of scripts, and they aren’t easy to read so that makes me proud. Especially if it’s a script that is from a book.
Have you ever lied about having read a book to impress someone?
What’s the one book that you’ve sworn to read before you die?
Well my brothers are reading The Hunger Games for school and saw the movie, so I would like to read that in a few years.
What are your five Desert Island Books?
I would choose some funny books or books that would keep my mind off of being lost on a desert island. So I would read How to Eat Fries Worms, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and I also like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Captain Underpants and every Spider-Man comic book I could take with me!
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
If you could play any character from a book, who would you choose?
I feel like I am living my dream playing young Peter Parker. Spider-Man is my favorite super hero, and I can’t believe I get to play him in the movie.
Do you have a book on you right now? What is it?
I just got Charlotte’s Web. I have it for school this year, so I thought I would read it before we start filming the new series next month.
