What’s the next best thing to sitting down to devour the latest book from one of your favorite writers? Sitting down to write your own story inspired by said writer. So we’re giddy that New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Weiner, whose hot new book The Next Best Thing comes out July 3, has contributed this week’s Daily Theme.
Jen is a seriously versatile–and prolific–writer: She’s written for Salon.com, Glamour, Seventeen, Good Housekeeping, In Style, Elle, and The Huffington Post, and has published ten books including In Her Shoes, which was turned into a major motion picture starring Cameron Diaz. She was also the co-creator of ABC Family’s State of Georgia, which while short-lived, was the inspiration behind the showbiz setting of The Next Best Thing.
But despite her crazy schedule, Jen is never too busy to help her fellow writers, and was generous enough to stop by Figment to share the fun, evocative prompt below…
Figment Daily Theme–June 28, 2012
You’re out in the world, doing something mundane — pumping gas, trying on
shoes — when you look up and see someone who could be your twin. Face,
body, hair, this person looks exactly like you…except you can tell from
the person’s clothes, expression, the car she’s driving, the shoes she’s
buying, that she’s led an entirely different kind of life than you have.
Tell me her story.
