Vote in the Semi-Charmed Life Contest!

Beatrice Bernstein, the main character in Nora Zelevansky’s new novel, Semi-Charmed Life, has never felt like she fit in with the rest of her family. Inspired by Beatrice’s outsider status, we challenged you to write a story where the main character is radically different from the people around him or her. Even though the entry period has ended, you get to help pick the winner. Now it’s the time for you to make sure your favorites stand out by voting in the Semi-Charmed Life short story contest!

Voting will run until 5 p.m. ET on Monday, July 23. Nora Zelevansky, the author of Semi-Charmed Life, will choose a winner from the top-voted finalists.

First prize winner will receive a copy of Semi-Charmed Life, an advanced reader copy of Death and the Girl Next Door by Darynda Jones (not out until October!), and a copy of The Demon Trapper’s Daughter by Jana Oliver.

Second prize winner will receive a copy of Semi-Charmed Life and The Demon Trapper’s Daughter.

Third prize winner will receive a copy of Semi-Charmed Life.

So what are you waiting for? Get voting!

  1. Um, I’d like to say that if you’re interested in reading something a litle different, my short story, “The Lawyer (A Charles Dickens Fanfic)” is about Sydney Cartons. You know. For anyone who likes or has read A Tale of Two Cities. ._. I just thought people might like something that wasn’t about teenagers at school.

  2. I still don’t think this whole hearts scheme is the best way to vote.
People will ask for a heart and give you one in return and may not even read each others stories.

  3. Okay, I have a question. How many finalists will there be? I entered, and have pretty much lived on this website for the past week trying to get votes, yet I have no where near as many some of the others. The only reason they have so many hearts is because they do heart swaps, which I know is allowed but to me just seems like cheating. So at first, I tried to do honest swaps, but they take so much more time. While I actually read other peoples’ stories, the other contestants just hearted each others. So I fell really far behind. I tried recently to do the heart swaps but I started too late. I can’t catch up now, considering tomorrow’s the deadline. I just feel horrible, because I worked so hard, and my efforts were pointless. I feel like I just wasted my time. And I’m not saying my entry is better than the others, I’m just mad that this is based off of who has more time to beg people for hearts rather than talent. I’m not the only one who thinks this, either. Several people I’ve talked to from this contest and other contests have said the same thing. Sorry for complaining, since I absolutely love this website (it’s my life), but I’m kind of upset…

    • There will be ten finalists in this contest. We understand it is hard to get your story noticed ahead of the pack, but don’t despair! We announce new contests all the time so you have a new opportunity every week. Good luck!
