Stars! They Read Like Us: Zachary Gordon

The dog days of summer are here. No, literally, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, the third in the Wimpy Kid series opened on August 3 in theaters everywhere, bringing us another slice of Greg Heffley’s wild, charming, painful, hilarious junior high school adventures. Greg may be more into video games than books during his summer vacation, but actor Zachary Gordon, who plays him in the film version, loves to read as much as we do here at Figment. Despite his busy schedule (his acting credits include roles on How I Met Your Mother and National Treasure: Book of Secrets) he was kind enough to share a few of his favorite titles with us!

What’s the book that you’re proudest of having finished?
All the Harry Potter books

Have you ever lied about having read a book to impress someone? (If yes, what was the book and why?)

What’s the one book that you’ve sworn to read before you die?
Hopefully, I have a long life ahead of me and will read lots of challenging books (including the classics) before then.

What are your five Desert Island Books?
The Giver
The Maze Runner
The Hunger Games series
The Harry Potter series
The Call of the Wild
And of course . . .
How to Survive on a Desert Island

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Who?
Not yet, they don’t seem real enough to me.

If you could play any character from a book, who would you choose?
Interestingly enough, when I first read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, I wanted to make a movie out of them, but then heard that Fox beat me to it. So I thought the next best thing would be to play the lead character, Greg.

Do you have a book on you right now? What is it?
Yes, The Scorch Trials by James Dashner. I love the whole series.

What’s the best book to give to someone you secretly want to ask out?
I never really thought about that . . . maybe The Hunger Games.

What’s the one book that would be a deal-breaker if you saw it on a date’s bookshelf?
How to Be Successful in Mathematics.

What’s a book that’s made you:

Shiver: Celebrity Ghost Stories

Laugh out loud: Diary of a Wimpy Kid

  1. I don’t mean to be mean, but he’s like fourteen right? Shouldn’t he be reading more challenging books than the ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ series? I read those in first grade, literally. They are cute, but a little young for him. As for the ‘Harry Potter’ series you have me there, I started it in third grade and finished it in fourth (I was missing the sixth one for awhile). I still reread them time-to-time though:p

    • Umm, he reads other books. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are what hes acting out, it’d be silly not to even read them.
