Beautiful Lies Flash-Fiction Contest: Day 4

Jessica Warman builds a dark and sinister world in her new novel, Beautiful Lies. But the book isn’t set in a post-apocalyptic city that’s been ravaged by war. The novel takes place in a typical suburban town, filled with teenagers and families who do ordinary things. But her main characters, Alice and Rachel, identical twins with a psychic bond, see the darker side of this town. And when one of the twins goes missing, the other uncovers some terrifying secrets in the process of trying to find her sister.

Inspired by Jessica Warman’s dark and brooding settings, we’ve got a weeklong flash fiction contest for you! Each day we’ll be giving you a new setting—some place that seems totally normal. Your challenge: In 150 words or less, write a descriptive scene about the setting that feels creepy and menacing.

Today’s setting: Parking lot

You have until 11:59 p.m. ET on August 17, 2012 to enter. The Figment team will choose the 10 best entries from the entire week and send them to Jessica, who will choose one grand prize winner. The grand prize winner will receive copies of Beautiful Lies, BetweenBreathless, and Where Truth Lies all by Jessica Warman; copies of Fracture and Hysteria  (which won’t be released until February 2013) by Megan Miranda, and Breaking Beautiful by Jennifer Shaw Wolf.

Five daily winners will receive copies Beautiful LiesBetweenBreathless, and Where Truth Lies all by Jessica Warman.
