Vote in the What’s Left of Me Short-Story Contest

What’s Left of Me by Kat Zhang, is set in a world where everyone is born with two souls, but society has determined that one soul must eventually fade away. Fifteen-year-olds Eva and Addie share the same body, but by this point, they should have “settled.” Everyone thinks that Eva has disappeared, but she hasn’t. For three years, they have kept their secret from everyone, including their parents.

Then Addie and Eva meet someone who could help Eva learn to move again. It’s risky: Hybrids are are considered dangerous and if they get caught, Eva could disappear for good. But for Eva, the chance to move in her own body—to dance and sing and speak—are worth the risks.

Inspired by Addie and Eva’s dark secret, we challenged you to write a story about someone who has to hide some aspect of their identity.

You wrote some great stories, and now it’s time for you to help choose the winner! Voting will run until Tuesday, October 9 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The top ten most-hearted finalists will be sent to Kat Zhang for judging!

One grand prize winner will receive a Caran d’Ache Graphite Line gift box and a Cachet Soho Sketch Book, and a copy of What’s Left of Me by Kat Zhang.

Three runners-up will receive each receive a copy of What’s Left of Me.
