Rootless Short-Story Contest

In the bleak futuristic world of Rootless, the all-powerful corporation GenTech runs everything. Nature, as we know it, no longer exists. There are no trees, no cows, no crops, only desolate wasteland. The only thing that grows is corn, which has been genetically engineered by GenTech to provide all the nutrients a person needs.

Banyan is a 17-year-old tree builder. Even though he’s never seen a real tree, he uses scrap metal to create beautiful forests for rich patrons. In this barren land dominated by GenTech, his forests are a singular source of beauty.
