Karou’s Workshop Challenge

teeth necklaces

In Laini Taylor’s Days of Blood and Starlightthe monstrous chimaera have managed to survive their long war with the angels by creating new bodies for their dead soldiers’ souls. Fantastical bodies, made up of various animal parts—a tiger with bull horns. An ape with the legs of a cheetah. A man with the strong legs of a white wolf. The resurrected soldiers are known as revenants.

To create the body, a resurrectionist must string together a necklace of teeth. Each tooth conjures up a body part. Other objects are added—gems, beads, metals—to give the revenant certain characteristics. Heavy iron filings give a body size and heft. Jade, grace. Diamonds, beauty and strength.

Your challenge: Create your own revenant.

Come up with a list of 4-7 objects. In 150 words or less, describe the body it would conjure.

Use these items for inspiration, but feel free to come up with your own!
wolf tooth   shark tooth   tiger tooth   bear tooth   crocodile tooth   human tooth
elephant tusk   ruby   copper coin   strip of leather   lump of coal   gold ingot
child’s marble   chip of granite from a beautiful statue

  1. This is a really cool idea. I love it!

We need more contests up now, though. Even if they are just flash fiction. We only have three at the moment.
