Perry Eckert of Ned Vizzini’s new novel, The Other Normals, would give anything to spend his summer playing Creatures and Caverns, an epic role-playing game rich with magical creatures, spell casting, and deadly weapons. Instead, his parents ship him off to summer camp, where they expect him to acquire some social skills—and Perry expects he’ll be miserable.
Camp turns out to be pretty cool, however, when Perry stumbles into the World of the Other Normals. Suddenly, his characters from Creatures and Caverns have come to life, and they need Perry to save the day.
Inspired by Perry’s heroism, we challenged you to write a story about an apparent weakness that ends up working to someone’s advantage. You wrote and voted, and we sent the ten finalists to Ned himself for judging. We’re now pleased to announce the winners of this contest!
Congrats, Angie and Jay! You will each receive a copy of The Other Normals.
Thank you to everyone who participated!
