After Short-Story Contest Winners

Inspired by the apocalyptic and dystopian tales in the new anthology After: 19 Stories of Apocalypse and Dystopia, we challenged you to write a story about what happens after the world ends. You wrote and voted, and we sent the finalists to Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling (the book’s editors) for judging. We’re now pleased to announce the winners of the contest!

Check out the winning stories below, and be sure to congratulate your fellow Figs!

Grand Prize:

Congrats, L Ladner! You will receive copies of After edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling, Beta by Rachel Cohn, Jepp, Who Defied the Stars by Katherine Marsh, False Memory by Dan Krokos, and The Fear by Charlie Higson.

Ellen and Terri said, “This story is evocative and subtle, and because it never explains how the characters have ended up where they are, it’s a very effective short tale.”

Second Place:

Way to go, Laila! You will receive an eBook copy of After from the iBookstore and a $10 Amazon gift card.

Third Place:

Well done, R.J.! You will receive an eBook copy of After from the iBookstore.
