Vote in the Catherine Short-Story Contest

Catherine by April LindnerInspired by Catherine by April Lindner, a modern retelling of Wuthering Heights, we challenged you to write a story about a forbidden romance. The entry period for this contest has ended, but you still have a chance to help choose the winner!

Voting will run until Tuesday, January 22 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The top 10 most-hearted stories will be sent to April for judging.

One grand prize winner will receive copies of Catherine and Jane by April Lindner. The grand-prize winner will also receive a Figment tote bag and the opportunity to choose the featured stories on’s homepage for one day.

Two runners-up will each receive copies of Catherine and Jane.

  1. are we allowed to use pictures from google as our cover photos as long as their usage rights are listed as “free to use or share”?

      • I have the same question. Currently I am using a Figment cover, but I wish to use a photo from the internet. I can’t trace the source, therefore I cannot trace the copyrights, so is it best to stick with the Figment cover? Will my entry be disqualified if I use said photo? I looked at the terms of service, but I can’t find anything that specifically addresses my situation.

        • You may only post material to which you have the copyright, there is no copyright (public domain), or the copyright owner has given you explicit permission. Anything else may violate the terms of service and may be removed. If you are unsure whether or not your cover violates the terms of service, you should not post it.

  2. Hi! I wanted to know that during voting season if you could change the cover of your story. (if you’re an entry of course) So can you change the cover of your entry without being disqualified?
