Dance of Shadows: Weekend Flash-Fiction Contest

Dance of Shadows by Yelena BlackThree years ago, Vanessa’s prima ballerina sister, Margaret, disappeared from New York Ballet Academy. Now, Vanessa is starting her own journey at NYBA in the hopes that she will find her sister, or at least discover what happened to her.

“Welcome to the real New York Ballet Academy.”

In the middle of her first night away at school, Vanessa is blind-folded and shuffled off to the studio where the upperclassman lead their own secret welcome session. Draped in cloaks and hiding behind masks, the seniors demand a blood sacrifice from the new dancers; it’s time for their initiation.
