Can Gil and June’s friendship survive heartbreak, rivalry, and the coming revolution? And can June put aside her intense feelings for Enki and create some of the best art their city has ever seen?

Inspired by the friendships and rivalries in The Summer Prince, by Alaya Dawn Johnson,  we’re hosting a four-day flash-fiction contest! Your challenge? In 250 words or fewer, write a story about rivals who become friends or friends who become rivals.

Prizes

Four winners will each receive a copy of The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson and see their stories featured on the Figment homepage.

How to Enter

1. Read the full rules.
2. Create an account on Figment.com.
3. Start a new writing of 250 words or fewer.
4. Tag your writing with RivalContest on the “Details” tab.
5. Press “Publish Now.”
6. You should receive a pop-up confirmation of your entry, and in about two hours or so, your piece should appear among the submissions.

You have until Friday, March 15 at 11:59 p.m. ET to enter your story. Figment editors will be reading all the entries. We’ll choose our five favorites to send to author Alaya Dawn Johnson and she will choose the winners.
