6 Harry Potter Actors Who Have Appeared On Doctor Who

Doctor Who and Harry Potter are like peanut butter and jelly. They go together perfectly, and always make us feel better when we’re sick. Of course, it’s not just the incredible characters, obsessed fans, and British accents that connect these two shows! Many actors have appeared on both Doctor Who and in the Harry Potter films. Check out the list below, and let us know who we missed in the comments!

David Tennant

David Tennant played a truly creepy Barty Crouch Jr., but we like him best as the Tenth Doctor.

Michael Gambon

Everyone’s favorite headmaster also appeared as Elliot Sardick in “A Christmas Carol.”

Mark Williams

Forever-dad Mark Williams played Rory’s father in the Doctor Who episode, “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” and, of course, is the always loveable Mr. Weasley.

Toby Jones

Believe it or not, the squeaky voiced Dobby is played by the same man who haunted Amy, Rory, and the Doctor in “Amy’s Choice.”

Bill Nighy

Rufus Scrimgeour is a fear monger in Deathly Hallows, but Bill Nighy gives comfort to Vincent Van Gogh in “Vincent and the Doctor.”

Shirley Henderson

Shirley Henderson’s characters have some bad luck: Moaning Myrtle haunts Hogwarts bathrooms, and Ursala Elton gets “absorbed” by a monster in “Love and Monsters.”

  1. If I’m remembering correctly, in “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” that… guy on there (the weird looking/evil one?) was also Filch in Harry Potter. 0_o If I’m remembering correctly. She talks about it to me, but I only take in half of it, so I might be wrong, but… 0_o

  2. There’s also Narcissa (Helen McCrory) who played the vampire queen in Vampires of Venice,Madame Hooch who played Cassandra, and Barty Crouch Sr. who plays the creator of the cybermen.

  3. This is an incomplete list. I know of at least two others that I can immediately think of.
    1) Filch is the bad guy from Dinosaurs on a Spaceship
    2) Barty Crouch sr. is the creator of the Cybermen

And another Doctor Who/ Harry Potter fact: Daniel Radcliff was considered for the role of the Eleventh Doctor.

  4. There’s also Simon Fisher-Becker who appeared as the Fat Friar in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Dorium Maldovar in Doctor Who. (The big fat blue merchant guy who appears in “The Pandorica Opens,” “A Good Man Goes To War,” and “The Wedding of River Song.”)

  5. If only Daniel Radcliffe was a good actor then he would be ok. But Matt smith is so amazing as the 11th doctor.

  6. I knew it! I knew David Tennant played in Harry Potter. Out of all of tbe doctors Tennant was my favorite. </3 so sad to see him not on there anymore.

  7. John Cleese had a cameo in an earlier episode of Dr Who entitled “City of Death” and was also Headless Nick in 2 Harry Potter movies.

  8. Also, interesting connection: Harry Melling who plays Dudley Dursley it’s the grandson of Patrick Troughton, the second Doctor.

  9. David Tennant a great actor he is, i am a big fan of him after watching doctor who series. Specially i am in love with his dressing style , recently i saw the same coat avilable at ————- for sale. I am gonna order it.
