As November arrives on the island of Thisby, the ocean fills with deadly, man-eating water horses. The arrival of the capaill uisce, as they’re called, signal the beginning of training for the Scorpio Races—a dangerous yearly competition that draws the attention of much of the island. Kate Connolly (aka Puck) was left orphaned when a water horse tore her parents from their boat, so Puck and her brothers have always avoided the races. But when her oldest brother, Gabe, announces that he’s leaving Thisby for the mainland, Puck signs up for the races in a desperate attempt to get him to stay.
Puck can’t imagine her life without quirky, tinkering Finn, and quiet, driven Gabe. Finn and Gabe couldn’t be more different, and they’re far from perfect, but they’re the only family Puck has, and she’ll risk her life to keep them together. Inspired by Puck, Finn, and Gabe in The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater, we came up with a list of a just a few of our favorite siblings. Read through our list below, vote for your favorite, and tell us who we missed in the comments.
The Lightwoods are total opposites—she’s flirty and aggressive, he’s shy and loyal—and their taste in guys couldn’t be more different. On top of that they fight constantly! No, seriously. They tag-team as Shadowhunters, supernatural demon slayers. Despite their differences, their support for each other is absolute.
Katniss would do anything to save Prim, obviously. She risked her life daily to hunt for food for Prim and her mom, and refused to take extra rations and increase Prim’s chances of being chosen at the Reaping. Of course, we all know how that worked out. Katniss volunteered . . . she volunteered as tribute! It’s Prim that inspires Katniss to win the games—these sisters are super tight.
Mycroft and Sherlock certainly make an interesting pair. Older brother Mycroft claims he only wants to protect his emotionally stunted, but brilliant little brother, but we’re not sure if we buy that. Mycroft is the political mind in the family, and it’s hard to believe he doesn’t have some kind of scheme up his sleeve.
Sam and Dean spend their days fighting paranormal monsters and exchanging witty banter. When they were little, a demon killed their mother, and their father turned to demon hunting. He would sometimes be away for weeks at a time, leaving Dean to care for Sam. This made the brothers super close. And super cute. Actually, that’s probably not relevant.
When John and Hank Green ceased all textual communication for a year in favor of vlogging on YouTube, the world fell in love with them. John, the author of such heartbreakers as Looking for Alaska and The Fault in Our Stars, and Hank, musician/dabbler in all things, are both incredibly smart, funny, and make an unbeatable team. DFTBA.
JaneElizabethMaryLydiaKitty. The five Bennet sisters are individuals, sure, but when it comes down to it, they all have to deal with their silly mother and (mostly) disinterested father. The girls each make unique decisions, but they depend on each other for advice. And even when things get messy *cough*Lydia*cough* the girls are always there for each other.
There’s no tighter bunch in the wizarding world. The Weasley children stick with each other through thick and thin. Even when Percy is being a total prat and Fred and George are blowing things up in their bedroom, they still love each other. And have you ever seen another set of seven children who look so much alike? Must be magic . . .
So, what do you think? Which siblings are the tightest? Vote in the poll below, and let us know who we missed in the comments!
