Fictionalize Yourself: A Week-Long Flash-Fiction Contest

We know you’ve thought about it: What would a novel of your life be like? How would you meet your best friend? How would you fall in love? Inspired by these questions, we’re challenging you to spend this week fictionalizing your life.

Details

Every morning at 10:00 a.m. ET between now and Friday, July 19 we’ll be posting a different “character” in the story of your life. You have until midnight the following day to respond to the prompt with a scene of no more than 100 words in which you introduce that person as if they were a character in a novel of your life. (Deadlines will be posted with the prompts.) You can enter one story per prompt. The stories do not have to be related.

Prizes

Figment editors will be reading all entries. Five daily winners will be featured on the Figment homepage.

  1. If we participate everyday do we publish all of our prompts in the same book or do we publish different books for each prompt?

  2. Does the prompt mean write a scene about when you first met your best friend, or just a scene that introduces your friend as if you were introducing her in a novel?

    Thanks~sonty

    • You can enter a story for each prompt, or for three, or for one. Whatever floats your boat. But they must be entered in the time period specified for each prompt.
