Figment’s Fall Roundup

Here at Figment, we always get excited about new books. And new movies. And new TV shows. Fine, we just like new things, okay? Anyway, there’s no season like the fall for a flurry of new books and movies, and TV shows — and there are quite a few coming out this fall that have us very excited.

What are we looking forward to most? We’re glad you asked! Check out a list of the books, movies, and TV shows we can’t wait to read and see. Take a look at our picks, then let us know in the comments what you’re psyched about!

Rainbow RowellFangirl

September 10

We absolutely loved Rainbow Rowell’s last novel, Eleanor and Park. And we’re very pleased we get a new book from the author less than a year later! Fangirl is about a pair of twins who are obsessed with a Harry Potter-ish book series, and the way the series shapes their relationship as they grow up. We’re pretty sure this will be required reading for every fangirl (and boy).

Maggie Stiefvater, Raven BoysThe Dream Thieves

September 17

We’ve been waiting for the next book in the Raven Boys cycle pretty much ever since we finished the first one. This installment is focused more on Ronan, but the rest of the gang is still hard at work keeping Cabeswater safe from enemies. The best part? We only have to wait one more week for this book to come out!

Veronica RothAllegiant

October 22

While we wait for the release of the Divergent movie, we are equally excited to read the final book is Veronica Roth’s trilogy. Will Tris and Tobias survive outside the walls of their society? Will they make more shocking discoveries? Will we have an excitement-induced breakdown when we get our hands on the book? The answer to that last question, at least, is YES.

Dangerous Dream

December 17

We loved Beautiful Redemption, the finale of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s Beautiful Creatures series, when we read it last year. So we were pretty excited to hear that Stohl and Garcia are coming back with a new spin-off series, based on our favorite couple Link and Ridley (maybe they will finally stay together). This enovella is just a start — we’ll have to wait for a full novel until May 2014. But hey, we’ll take what we can get.

Ender’s Game

November 1

This movie has been in the making for ages, and we’re super excited about it. The terrifying scenarios of the war simulator should look awesome on the big screen. Plus, the little boy from Hugo as Ender and the always-awesome Abigail Breslin as Valentine? Um, yes please!

The Book Thief

November 15

Yet another one of our favorite books is becoming a movie! We’re obviously a little protective of The Book Thief since it’s such an amazing story, but we’re hoping this movie turns out to be as awesome as it looks. We may or may not have been rewatching the trailer obsessively ever since it came out.

Catching Fire

November 22

You guys knew this one was going to be on the list. As if we weren’t excited enough, they keep releasing pretty promotional posters that make us want to see the movie RIGHT NOW. Not gonna lie, we’re probably going to be in line for the midnight premiere dressed as Katniss . . . a week in advance.

Legend of Korra

September 13

We are so ready for Korra, you guys. It’s officially been more than a year since the last episode. And this Friday, we finally get a new one! We can’t wait to see what Korra & Co. are up to. Just FYI, in case you weren’t psyched enough, Grey DeLisle (the voice of Azula) is going to play a character called “The Dark Spirit.” Get pumped.

Marvel, Joss WhedonMarvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

September 24

Even though we don’t know much about this new show, it seems like it’s got all the makings of an awesome new series. An Avengers spinoff? Check. Tons of amazing new superheroes? Check. Joss Whedon?! Check. Yeah, you can definitely count us in for this one!

David Tennant, Matt SmithDoctor Who

November 23

It’s been far too long since we’ve seen a new episode of Doctor Who. Not to mention the fact that the 50th Anniversary special means the return of David Tennant and Billie Piper (the tenth Doctor and Rose!). Plus, not only are the Daleks coming back, but we get to see a classic villain that hasn’t appeared on the show since 1975!

Which of these new releases are you most excited about? What does your fall reading/viewing schedule look like? Let us know in the comments!

  1. What about the House of Hades? The next book in Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus? Does the world not know what we’re going through?!

    • Yes!!!!!!! SUPERNATURAL. How did this not make it on there?!?! I’ve lost my social life over eight seasons already, can’t wait for the next one! Plus the bromance is jut getting better as I watch reruns. XD

      • Supernatural has had me hooked since February 2013 when I started. I then watched seven seasons in five weeks, and obsessed over season 8 but I’ve only seen 8×01 to 8×09 then 8×17 to 8×23. I’m going to feel so lost when season 9 starts. CW cannot order their season 8 reruns to save their lives!

  2. Why did you not put Carrie?! That is the one movie I plan on actually paying to watch in the theater this Fall. How can you not put done one of Stephen King’s best works?

  3. Hello! Unsouled, the third book in the Unwind dystology. Why does nobody know about it? No one understands my impatience for it and my absolute love of the characters!

  4. What about Marie Lu’s “Champion”? I’m so exited for that book, I’m nearly hyperventilating!
But I’m soooooooooo excited for Ender’s Game too 🙂
