    • Hi P.J. You don’t need to follow the video game’s storyline. As long as you’re inside of the video game – the rest is up to you. Good luck!

  1. Hello,

I was wondering if you will be reading the entries or not. Also, you missed a word in the prizes paragraph. It should say “Ten winners will receive”.

    Thanks!
    –Rachel

  2. How will winners be decided? Will it be based on how many hearts or will all submissions be read and judged by someone?

  3. Does it have to take place along the game’s story, or can it be based in the same ‘universe’ but at a different time and place?

    • It doesn’t have to follow your video game’s storyline – of course not! Be creative. Looking forward to reading yours!

  4. I don’t play video games but I love watching people play them…does it matter if we choose a video game like Harry potter or narnia? I really don’t know much about the games, but I really want to write about someone in a video game…

    • Since there are video games out for them, that’s fine! As long as it’s clear in your story or description which video game it is. Good luck!

  5. Hi! So, I was wondering, if you write a story based off of a video game, but the video game has multiple different places (Like Grand Theft Auto is based in Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas), could you write it based off of the main character in one of the places (Take CJ from San Andreas for instance) but place him in another city, like Liberty City or something?

Also, does it have to be from the POV of the main character in the video game or in third person, or can it be from another perspective (take the same game from before: CJ would be the main character, but what if someone wanted to write it from Ryder or Big Smoke’s perspective)?

  6. Does the story have to start in the game or in reality and move to he game or does it not matter?
And also it’s okay if we don’t choose main console or PC games right? Something like a and indie game would work right?

    • Hi Haze – the story can start in reality or in your game. As long as the main story takes place inside of the game that’s fine. Also, as long as it’s an actual game, the popularity doesn’t matter. Good luck!

  7. Hi,

The game I was going to use has already been taken in another entry. Is it OK to use the same game – my take will be entirely different anyway.

    Thanks
    Prim

    • Hi Abraham, as long as your story fits the criteria like word count, appropriate tag and the general prompt being asked then sure!

  8. If you win, how do you get your free book? Is it mailed to you? If it is, you would have to give Figment your address to claim your prize, correct?

  9. Can you be a sort of OC? Like, can it be me but used to being in the game?
Thank you! And this is a great idea for a contest.

    • As long as your story takes place inside of a real video game – the rest, including the characters, are up to you! Good luck!

  10. When an entry is posted once, can it be edited? Or deleted by the author? Eg: I want to change the cover or edit the wordings.

  11. How many stories can you write for each contest? My friend stated that you could write two, but I want to know for sure. Also, does it have to be a video game you write about or can it be based off of a book?

  12. Hi! I was wondering what words you were allowed to use to still be eligible to win. For example, if I used a word that is to be considered a “bad word” would my entry be ineligible?

    • That’s fine as long as it’s tasteful, Alex! If the whole thing is full of potty mouths it would be a bit difficult for us to share it across social media. Thanks!

  13. I removed my entry from the contest. But now I want to enter again. I tagged it VirtNet but it’s not coming in the list of entries. Here’s the link: Imperios

  14. Ok, I just want to make sure I understand the rules:

*A real video game is picked (for instance Call of Duty: Black Ops 2)
    * Can take place anywhere inside the game (such as a team death match)
    * and can be any persons I choose (such as people I’ve played with inside game?)
    *1000 words or less
    * Each Entry is read and 10 are decided

    this is all right, right?

    • Hi Charbel! Unfortunately we are unable to send books internationally yet. However, everyone is still eligible to win! If an international Figgie happened to win we would still announce them and feature their story across all of our channels! I hope that helps and good luck!

  15. Can it be set in the universe with the characters of the game but not within in the games storyline i.e can it be set after the game has finished.

  16. Hey, so I have submitted my own story entitled “Saint Patricks Day in Runescape” when this contest first came out and I never saw it among the list. I tried again twice and I still don’t see it. Maybe it’s because it’s exactly 1000 words? (I edited it to 998 words to see if that will help.) But maybe it’s because it is an old writing of mine which I trimmed and submitted. I don’t see it when I search the virtnet tag list. Thanks for your time, and good luck everyone!

    ~Abraham

    • Hi Abraham! The only thing that determines whether or your story shows up in the entries list is the tag. Try removing and adding the tag again? As long as we can see it when searching for the tag you’ll be fine. Good luck!

  17. Hi! I was just wondering, if you wrote a book that just so happens to include topics for two contests that are going on at the same time, can you get into both of them entering the same book, or is that not allowed?

  18. Hey! So, for the deadline, will they announce the winner that day, or will it be later? Sorry, I’m super excited for this contest!
    ~Eve:)

  19. sorry, I posted my story like three days ago; tagged it and everything.
But it’s not listed as part of the entries so I just hope I’m not too late in noticing this :/

  20. Hi I just published my writing ‘Trails of Time’, today the day of the deadline 21st September at 11.32pm. But I haven’t seen a pop-up confirmation that it has been received.

  21. I worked on this story for 26 days, 4 days on my cover, and a whole night cutting and editing words from 1650 to 1277, submitted my work 10 minutes shy of the deadline. And…I still didn’t win? Sigh…Wonder if its me.

    • Hi Kaylee! Winners were announced via Newsletter on Sunday. We normally announce them first there. The blog will be added today along with winners receiving e-mails for their address. Thanks!
