About the book:

waterfall_coverFrom the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Fallen books comes WATERFALL, a novel about love, betrayal, and epic consequences—a world-altering tale told by a girl whose tears have the power to raise the lost continent of Atlantis. This second novel in the Teardrop series is intensely romantic, with strong, hot main characters caught up in a thrilling fantastical love triangle. For readers who love Lauren Kate and the worlds of Alyson Noël, P. C. Cast, Maggie Stiefvater, and Veronica Rossi.
Eureka’s tears have flooded the earth, and now Atlantis is rising, bringing with it its evil king, Atlas. Eureka is the only one who can stop him, but first she must learn how to fight. She travels across the ocean with Cat, her family, and Ander, the gorgeous and mysterious Seedbearer who promises to help her find Solon, an enigmatic lost Seedbearer who knows how to defeat Atlas.

Once on land, Eureka is taunted by gossipwitches, a group of displaced Atlantean sorceresses, and ambushed by locals struggling to survive amid the destruction her tears have wrought. And she feels no closer to facing Atlas or saving the world when Solon lets slip that love is Ander’s weakness, and that any affection he feels toward her makes him age faster.

Trying to make sense of the dark world her sorrow has created, Eureka receives startling insight from an enchanted pond. Her bewildering reflection reveals a soul-crushing secret: if she’s strong enough, Eureka can draw on this knowledge to defeat Atlas—unless her broken heart is just what he needs to fuel his rising kingdom. . . .

In Waterfall, Eureka has the chance to save the world. But she’ll have to give up everything—even love.

  1. What is your definition of Mythical World, and what kind of story?

Like Fan-Fiction, or just something that takes place there?

  2. First of all, can it be based off of a world in a video game? This particular video game does have books written on it too though. Also, can it include characters from that world or does it have to be completely different?

    • The judging is as follows:

Winner Selection: At the conclusion of the time period provided Figment or an independent judging agency will select one (1) entry for each prize displayed in either: 1) a random drawing of all valid entries received; or 2) using the stated judging criteria.

The Brandon Sanderson contest rules stated that it was heart based however, this contest will be judged randomly (or possibly by pure merit).

(Copy of Brandon Sanderson contest rules: At the conclusion of the time period provided, Figment users will be able to “heart” their favorite stories on the site. The 10 entries that receive the most hearts will be selected as semi-finalists.)

  3. So, is it supposed to be in a mythical world already existing (by which I mean already in a book) or is it one of our own invention? I’m a little confused by what you mean when you say “favorite mythical world.”

    • For this contest, that is the absolute limit. After the winners have been announced you are more than welcome to continue your story – I’m sure your readers would love it!

  4. I am in a quandry. I am not clear as to your definition to mythical. Is world mythology like Greek, roman, norse, etc. or is it a mythical world based on a book series like Harry potter? That would technically make it fan fiction.

Please specify which it is before too much time has passed.

  5. This is my first contest I even thought of joining, I just have once question: How are you going to get the copy of Waterfall? Online or in reality.
(( don’t think that I’m dumb or something, because I never did a contest before ^.^))

    • We’ll be e-mailing the winners to get a copy of their physical address and they will be sent via snailmail! I hope that helps!

  6. I am slightly confused. Does this mythical world already have to exist, or can we make one up that we want to live in for the sake of the piece?

  7. So, this has to be a mythical world from a book that has been published? I’m guessing we can’t make up the mythical world?

  8. So, if this isn’t heart based, and the winners will be chosen via reading, will it be an admin reading it or are there specific people who read all the entries before picking winners?
This is my first contest entry as I don’t really do well with word limits. 😀

  9. I would appreciate it if the moderators would answer the previous questions since they basically cover all of mine. Thanks!

  10. Hello,

I read over your answers to some of the questions and I’m still a little confused as to how the winners will be chosen. You say hearts will not impact this contest, but I’m still confused. Will each story be read? Please let me know as soon as possible.

    • HI Rachel, yes I can assure you each story will be read for this contest. We’ll be picking a top 10 list from our favorites. Good luck!

  11. I would like to know how we know if we have written 500 words. I don’t think I want to waste my time trying to count 500 or so words.

  12. Excellent, another contest surrounding a YA novel with a love triangle. Like we haven’t read those a million times before.

  13. I know I only have a couple of days to write a 500 word short story, but I’d love to enter. Just one question though, can the world be one that you created or is this a fanfiction contest? Either way I’ll love to enter!!

  14. I received my copy of Waterfall (THANK YOU!!!!), but have yet to receive the Figment SWAG pack…when will that be shipped out??
