Featured Fig: Dylan Bennett

Each week we will be featuring one member for their outstanding contributions to the Figment community.

This week we’re featuring Dylan Bennett! Check out five of her stories along with her interview questions below!

What do you enjoy most about Figment and its community?

  • Definitely the inclusiveness. It’s rare to find a community that’s so instantly accepting of all its new members, and that is hands down the best thing about this site.

What is your favorite story that you have shared on Figment and why?

  • That’s a toughie, but it’s probably Do Not Read This Book if for no other reason than the fact that it’s so dear to my heart. It’s not my best-written or most thought-provoking piece ever, but it took me years to finish and it evolved over those years in ways I had never anticipated. It proved I was capable of actually completing a big project, which was awesome.

Where do you find inspiration to write and keep writing?

  • I’ve never had a hard time finding inspiration. I watch a lot of movies and read a ton of books, so I’m always taking in something. I’m certainly not shy about admitting that I’m constantly drawing inspiration from other artists. After all, if there really are only seven original plots out there, we all have to be working off of something preexisting.

What is the last book that you read?

  • Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey. It may not be high art, but high art is so overrated, especially when it comes to a demon-killing hitman from Hell. Pick it up and you will read it in a single sitting, I guarantee. Super fun stuff.

Do you have any advice for other Figgies looking to improve their writing?

  • You’ve probably heard it a thousand times before, but just keep writing! I promise that you will improve. Set aside a little bit of time everyday to work on it. Read books by the authors you love and let them inspire you. Just keep working at it, no matter what, and you will totally get there.

Congratulations again, Dylan and thank you for sharing your talent, inspiration and advice with us! Be sure to check out some of her work below.
