  1. Just wanted to know for sure if we can have more than one entry on this story. I know that on some contests you can and I just wanted to know if this is one of those or not.
    Thank you in advance 🙂

      • You say that we can have more than one entry, but does that mean that there is a maximum number of entries? I mean, I don’t want to be that person who has like 3 or 4 entries while everyone else has 2. Simply speaking, I don’t want to annoy the judges or admins of Figment…

        • Hi Kara – each entry for the contest will be read and judged before we even take a look at the author’s name so feel free to submit as many stories as you like. Good luck!

  2. Since the due date is February 6 at 11:59, are we able to write a piece, have it viewed by other Figment users (perhaps even hearted and such), and then turn it in to be judged–or must we write, edit ourselves, and turn it in with no other input from others, even in the Figment community?

    • Hi Kara!

As long as your story is submitted by 11:59 ET on Feb 6th your entry will be counted. Whether you have 300 hearts or 0. If your story is within the word limit and follows the specific prompt your story will be read and judged. Good luck!

  3. Just a few million questions:

    1) If I were younger than thirteen, could I have a parent/guardian do all the legal stuff?
    2) How do you pick the winner? Is it on random, or popularity (heart, comments, ect)?

Yes, I did read the full rules.

    Thanks!

    • Hi Luna!
In order to have an account on Figment users will need to be at least 13 years or older. Also – this contest is not heart-based. Each story will be read and judged. Good luck!

  4. Okay, so I have two questions.

    1. Is this contest heart-based? Like, if you have 0 hearts, will your entry still be read and judged?

and 2. Can you enter a previous writing that you’ve done prior to this contest?

    • Hi Jenny!
This contest will not be heart-based. You’re welcome to use previous works as long as they fall within the character limit and are following the prompt. However, the website entries will only recognize them if they are submitted within the time period so you’ll need to create a new story for the entry. Good luck!

  5. I was just wondering, since this is the first contest that I am entering, if our books could be based off of a song? I mean, not entirely copy the song, but use it as inspiration?

  6. so the piece can be about anything as long as it follows the prompt. I am only asking because I always write fiction stories.

    Thanks

    • Hi Dakota, that’s right! As long as your story fits the word limit of 1,234 and contains the prompt of either winter, cold or snow – you’re good to go! Good luck!

  7. So I have a few questions.

Can I use two of the themes listed in one story?

Since I don’t have a Facebook or Twitter, how can I follow what’s going on with the contest?

Thanks so much for all the work done so this contest can be here 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Hi Rachelle, feel free to use as many of the themes as you would like. Absolutely! You’re welcome to subscribe to our weekly Newsletter via the link on the homepage. Also, we’ll be giving updates via the Daily Fig and even on the homepage. Good luck!

  8. I am slightly confused about something. So I use a word counter website to tell me the length of my stories and it does both word count and character count. The word count for my story is 490 whereas the character count is 2,521. I don’t know which to listen to without failing epicly. Please give your opinion. Thanks!

    • Hi Jade, the limit for this contest is a WORD count of 1,234 so you’re fine. Also, Figment has its own word count built into the platform so that’s the total we will be looking at before reading your story. Good luck!

    • Hi Alysa – as long as you are within the word limit of 1,234 and feature the prompt, the rest is left up to your creative minds. Good luck!

  9. If we’re US citizens but living outside of the United States, are we still eligible to take part? I would absolutely love to, so I do hope so!

    • Hi M.Cimino, we are only able to ship within the USA at this time. If you’d be sending us an address within the USA we can ship it! Good luck!

  10. I’m really glad that we have these contests. I admit, I’ve not won any, and this prize is a really good one. I have an idea for a story on this one, and it’ll be different to what I’m used to writing, but I hope it’ll be good 🙂

  11. If we wanted to write a piece for this contest, but also wanted to make it a longer story, could we enter a part of it that fits in the character limit then go back and make it longer and not submit the longer part? If that makes sense? Or would that make the excerpt that was entered in the contest longer too?

      • HI Kaitlyn, no spaces don’t count. It’s a 1,234 word limit so it will only count your words. Figment will automatically keep track of your count once you post updates to your story. Good luck!

    • Hi Kaitlyn, as long as your contest entry is within the 1,234 character limit at the end of the contest period that’s fine! You’re welcome to add on to your entry with what you have written once the winners have been announced. Good luck!

  12. Hi! I was wondering if there is any way to enter privately rather than posting for the world to see, or if I want to be judged I must post publicly? Thank you!

  13. First things first, I’d love to say thank you for listening and making contests a bit more fair by properly judging them. Second, holy moly are those adorable prizes. I hope this isn’t the only contest they’ll be available for, because if I don’t win, I would definitely love a second shot at them. And finally, as well as most importantly: I have an idea, but I’m not sure it involves cold/snow/winter enough to truly fit. Does it matter if the story doesn’t entirely circle around the cold or entirely take place in it? The prompt stated it has to be a theme, so does the story actually have to be about the winter?

    • Hi Ayliesha! Thanks and absolutely – there will be plenty more chances to win our Figment swag prize packages. Your story can be about winter/cold/snow OR take place in one of them. Either one – as long as it features the prompt, the rest is up to you. Good luck!

  14. I love that FigmentSwag prize! I don’t plan on entering this contest, so will there be a way to buy a FigmentSwag set in the future? I would purchase it if I got the opportunity!!!!!

    Thanks for your time!!

  15. Hey so this is my first contest, I’m still not understanding exactly how to do this. Do I just write a story about winter? Or like that just has to do in the winter or cold or snow?

    • Hi Sonya! Congrats on entering your first Figment contest – we’re excited to see your entry! As long as your story is within the word limit and features a winter, snow, or cold setting or topic you will be good to go! Good luck!

    • Hi Caroline, at this time we can only ship prizes to Figgies in the USA. Thanks for posting – we’ll hopefully have international contests in the future!

  16. Hi, I just have a quick question. A story that I wrote previously for the KingDork contest would be perfect for this one as well. Could I re enter it to be considered for this one? Thank you so much!

    • Hi Trisha! You’re welcome to create a new story and use your content from that one with a new tag. If you just simply add the new tag to your prexisting story it will not recognize that you created it within the actual contest period so you won’t show up in the entries list. I hope that helps and good luck!

  17. Hey, so I got two quick questions:

    1) All I have to do to enter is put “winterwriting” as a tag on my story and it’s good to go?

    And

    2) Am I allowed to participate being a Canadian citizen?

    Thanks!

    • Hi Dylan, unfortunately we are only able to ship the prizes to US citizens at this time but will hopefully have contests in the future which will allow us to ship internationally! Also, as long as a story is within the word limit and has the tag “winterwriting” then it is entered. Thanks for posting!

  18. I have a story that could be used in this contest. My doubt is: can I participate? I’m from Portugal and I am not sure if I can. Can I?

    • Hi Daniela, Unfortunately, at this time we are only able to send out the prizes to those in the USA but will be happy to work on ways to ship internationally in the future!

  19. How long does it take for entries to be shown on this page? Ten hours ago I searched the tag and found quite a few stories written for this contest but this page still says there’s no entries for this contest.

    • Hi N – sometimes it can take a few hours, sometimes even a day if a lot of people are submitting their entries all at once. If the tag search is showing more entries than the entries page that can also mean Figgies are adding the new tag on an old story. The entries section only recognizes stories that are submitted within the contest period. Good luck!

    • Hi Neta, thanks for posting! Unfortunately, at this time we are only able to send out the prizes to those in the USA but will be happy to work on ways to ship internationally in the future!

    • Hi Maria, as long as your story includes it more than just a quick mention that will be fine. It won’t need to be entirely about one of those three but it also can’t be a quick mention of the word like, “I remember coming here in 1993 during the winter.” Does that make sense? Let us know if you have any additional questions and good luck!

    • Hi Sonya! Try refreshing the entries list by clicking on the show all entries button below. As long as your story was tagged properly within the contest period, it should be there. Good luck!

  20. Hi! I know this doesn’t really have anything to do with the contest but…
Mr. Admin, do you like pie?
    (totally honest question)
If you do, what kind of pie?
(more honest question than the last honest question)

    • Oh, and also, another totally honest question.

If you’re not 13 or older, can you have an adult handle all the legal things? I mean, I know you have to be 13 or older to have an account on figment, but I’m just wondering… My ‘lil sis want’s to give it a shot XD

  21. So, Mr. Admin, if someone edits my work, and adds some stuff to it, does that technically mean it’s not just my work anymore? Does that mean it would be two people submitting the entry, or what?

    • The winning stories will be awarded according to the profile page its listed on. If a user suggests feedback or updates for you it will still be considered your work. Good luck!

  22. So I’m brand new to Figment and decided I wanted to enter the contest. I tagged my flash fiction with the correct tag but received no indication as to whether or not it was received/entered and I’m a little confused…

    • Hi Meghan! Usually it can take a few hours in order to show up. Feel free to click on the Show all entries button above and check to see if your entry is there. If not, let us know and I’ll be happy to take a look!

  23. Is it alright to use a story that’s already done? Not here that is… For example I already wrote a story on another site and decided to post it here for this contest.

  24. So, once we tag it to ‘WinterWriting’ it’s submitted, right? But, will it be judged right after we do that or on the due date? Also, once we submit it can we still edit it?
Thank you and sorry for being a nuisance.

    • All stories will not be read or judged until the entry period is over so feel free to make any edits you feel necessary. Good luck!

    • There are many entries. It might be there somewhere its just they get mixed up. It may take forever to find but don’t worry im sure yours is being read as you red this 😀 I slipped through 10 slides before i found mine

  25. Hey fellow figgies! My story needs some loving. Go check it out and let me know what you think–I’m totally open to swaps, either for your own entry or for one of a similar length. Feel free to heart, react, comment, and review as you see fit. (BTW, my entry is called ‘Under the Ice’.) Thanks in advance, guys!

  26. Ok so I know I’m a bit late to the party and the contest is closing soon, but I wrote a story and it doesn’t introduce the winter/snow/cold theme right at the beginning. It’s still one of the main points, but I’d just like to make sure it’s still OK to submit.

  27. I submitted my two entries this morning, but didn’t receive any popup confirming either one. I just checked again on the entries list and still don’t see them listed. Both were correctly tagged and uploaded within the period for the contest, and both show up when I search for the tag. Would it still be judged even if I didn’t receive a confirmation and don’t see it in the entries as long as it was uploaded during the contest and tagged correctly?

    • Edit: one of them is showing up now, but I still don’t see the other one (which was published first). Would this be an issue with the judging?

  28. I’m not sure if I submitted mine on time? I submitted my entry at 11:58 or 11:59 PM. E.T and I didn’t receive a pop-up. Sorry I’m new to this, does that mean I didn’t submit the entry by the deadline?

  29. I tried posting my short story earlier today (this is my first contest entry) and don’t believe I got the pop-up. I repeated the process and still don’t think I got the pop up. Sorry if it submits it twice, I’m just not 100% sure that I submitted it correctly.

  30. I CAN NOT BELEIVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY ENTRY WASN’T INCLUDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM NOW SOOOOOOOOOO ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Hi Nickalas! We have announced the winners via our Newsletter – that’s where they are normally announced first. We will be posting them on our website soon!

  31. A lot of people are congratulating me on winning… But I never got any confirmation or anything that I won. I haven’t seen it anywhere and I didn’t get the newsletter… though I did sign up for it. I would just like to know if I actually won, for sure, because that would be amazing!!

  32. Hey-
When will the winners be announced here? I recently signed up for the newsletter and I didn’t get the memo… Thanks so much!
    ~Eve:)

  33. Hi, so I am one of the winners of this contest and it’s been a really long time since we were announced… when do we get the prizes??? I’v really been looking forward to this, and I got so excited I won the swag pack, I would like to receive it though… I have emailed you guys a bunch of times with no reply. Thanks!
