March Match-up 2016 – ROUND 1

round1

It’s time for another March Match-up! Some of you have been asking for it and here it is!

For those of who who aren’t familiar – our March Match-up contest is a month-long promotion similar to March Madness. EVERYONE is eligible to enter round 1. However, only 16 people will be picked to move on to round 2. When round 2 starts, a new writing prompt will be released and ONLY those 8 winners will be eligible to compete in round 3, and so on.

If you aren’t a winner and want to participate for fun – PLEASE DO! We’d love to check out what you guys come up with! Here we go…. HAPPY WRITING!

Prompt

In 1,000 words or fewer, create a short story including the items: a diary, a high school ring & a lost phone. You have until 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, March 7th to enter your story. You CAN submit multiple stories but you can ONLY win once. We’ll simply pick the best of your best. 😉

Prizes

Sixteen (16) winners will be chosen to not only win a cool Figment-branded item to be sent to you but will also win a chance to compete in ROUND 2 of this year’s March Match-up. Make sure you’re following us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr for the latest updates and good luck!

How to enter

1. Read the full rules.
2. Create an account on Figment.com.
3. Start a new writing of 1,000 words or less.
4. Tag your writing marchround1 on the Details tab.
5. Enter your response by the deadline listed in the prompt.
6. Press “Publish Now.”
7. You should receive a pop-up confirmation of your entry, and in about two hours or so, your piece should appear among the submissions.
8. If you have been selected as a winner you will receive a congratulations e-mail from community@figment.com to your Figment e-mail address. You will then be eligible to compete in the next round of March Match-up. Once all five (5) rounds have been completed you will be contacted again for your physical address. If you do not respond within two (2) weeks, you are no longer eligible to receive the physical prize. However, we will still be happy to promote how awesome you are!

    • HI Pragati – they are rings that some schools (particularly in the USA) that students can get to present their high school years. Feel free to google “high school ring” for some ideas. Good luck!

  1. Okay, so I have tried multiple times to publish my book with the required tag, but I am getting no pop-up confirmation. I also noticed there are plenty of writings with this tag, but no entries on the contest page. Is it just me or is something wrong?

    • Of course you can leave it hanging – we’d love to see you continue contest pieces in the future. We always keep that in mind while checking out entries.

  2. What do you mean by high school ring? Like, a ring you get from a high school like a private school to show you went there?

  3. Hi, if I have gotten an email to say Round 2 does that mean I was qualified for the next round? Also I can’t see my story on the page with the tag you asked to use for Round 2.
So would you please see what is happening? Or Do I need to wait like I did last time to see if I got into Round 3?
    Thanks.
    A.T

  4. There seems to be a glitch with the tag, Marchround1. One day there are 23 entries, the next 7, and today 0.

I’m hoping to add my entry soon, but want to make sure it will get entered.

    Please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Linda D

  5. I’m having a hard time publishing my piece. The buttons were they say “Save Draft” or “Publish” are not working for me. Is there any way that you guys could fix that? I really want to be able to enter this contest.
