Justin Bieber perfume, and now this.
Rapper/Actor 50 Cent once famously wrote, “Go shorty, it’s your birthday, we gonna party, like it’s your birthday.” Have truer words ever been said?
Having not heard anything from Fiddy in a while, I’ve been wondering what they could possibly be playing at Prom. I’d begun to fear that future generations would read his name, blazoned on some dusty jewel case, and pronounce it, “Fifty”.
Then this happened.
50 Cent has just announced that his next project will be a foray into the world of literature- a YA Novel entitled Playground. According to this article in New York Magazine, the semi-autobiographical book will feature the redemption of a teenage bully. I love this for two reasons: 1) freshly minted teens will get to know who 50 Cent is and 2) this is pure, crossover gold.
Some of his fellow musicians should definitely get in on this, and we’ve taken the liberty of putting together this list of YA titles for them.
Soon to hit the bookshelves at a store near you:
99 Problems But a Witch Ain’t One by Jay-Z
Muggle Gurls by Katy Perry
Such Wuthering Heights by The Postal Service
We R Who Vampyre by Ke$ha
Friday: Post Modern Pop Culture in the 21st Century, A Dissertation by Rebecca Black
We’d also be remiss not to acknowledge the flip side of this crossover coin- YA characters releasing rap songs.
Snitches Ain’t Sh!t by Harry Potter
To Be Your Baby by Jacob Black
Will the Real Slim Sparkly Please Stand Up? Edward Cullen
Quills, Quills, Quills by Hermione Granger
I just love it when worlds collide. Don’t you, Hipster Ariel?
