Your Fave Book to Movie Adaptations!

As much as you love reading your favorite book, you can’t help but imagine how this action scene or that romantic moment would look played-out on the big screen. Would it live up to expectations? Would it wildly exceed them? Would you watch it obsessively again and again over Swedish Fish and Milk Duds? The pressure is on when turning a beloved book into a major motion picture.

That’s why we’re so excited for Jonathan Safran Foer, who is judging our $500 Zinch Scholarship¬†(which you can enter now). The movie adaptation of his novel, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, has not only lived up to expectations, but has been nominated this year’s Best Picture Academy Award! It’s definitely got our vote.

We asked all of you for some of your favorite past book-to-film adaptations, and of the 2,500 (!) who voted, almost 1,000 of you chose The Hunger Games (no pressure, Jennifer Lawrence). Other top-voted favorites included Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

But what about those books that haven’t yet made it to the big screen? We took some of your dream cast recommendations straight from the forums.

  1. You guys need to get into the Terry Pratchett books. If you like Death as a character, his books have some AH-MAHZING examples. In the movie adaptation of The Colour of Magic, Christopher Lloyd was a wonderful Death.
