The Lucky One Writing Contest

What do High School Musical, A Very Potter Musical, The Lucky One, this contest, and my heart all have in common?

Zac Efron is in each one.

We’re stocited (stoked and excited) for the release of the The Lucky One because we know that the only person who could make the Z-man more heart-throbby is Nicholas Sparks, who drinks the tears and eats the hearts of those who read his books. He has never known drought or famine.

The Lucky One is based on Sparks’s 14th book. It’s the story of Logan Thibault (played by Zac), a U.S. Marine stationed in Iraq who finds a photograph of a woman he’s never met. He becomes convinced that it’s the picture that’s keeping him alive, and when he returns home, he vows to find the woman it shows. He leaves his home in Colorado and, against all odds, he finds the woman–Elizabeth–in North Carolina.

In 1,200 words or fewer, write a story about a character on a quest. You could win copies of The Lucky One and some boss Zefron posters–both signed by Nicholas Sparks and Zac Efron!

  1. Hey,
Is it okay if the main character fails on this quest?
Not to be depressing or anything, of course. 🙂
    Thanks!

  2. Umm… Sort of a problem with my contest entry. It’s tagged and published correctly. But some people can’t read it. Scrolling problems. I checked myself and I can’t read it either. Please help!

  4. Does it have to be exactly 1200 words? Obviously it can be less but what if your having an extremely difficult time condensing. I’ve shortened it about 300 words but I’m still over by 135. Do I need to still condense?

    • Hey-

We have to be strict about the word count. Only entries at or under the word count will be accepted. I know you can do it!

  5. Do they have to currently be on the quest, or can there be a wrench in the works that forces her to postpone the quest?

  6. Could you tell me a bit about what the Figment editors will be looking for or at when they judge the pieces? I just want to make sure I’m covering all the bases.

  7. Urm… Did anyone else notice the typo above?

    “… first-place winner wil receive a copy…”

    Just wondering…

  8. Hello, sorry to bother you again, but I was wondering if we are allowed to edit our entries up until the end of the voting period? I scanned the entire Full Rules this time and couldn’t find it – but I did find a typo. It’s in number 18, ‘For Promotion results email you request to info@figment.com.’

    Thank you!

    • Hey Kaitlyn–

We ask that you don’t edit your entries after the submission period has ended. And thanks for the heads-up re: you/your!

      Best,
      Emily

  10. is there a reason I didn’t get a pop up when trying to upload my story? I’m new to this and a little confused

    • Hey Kassandra-

If you created your story on Figment after the announcement of the contest and used the proper tag, you’re all set!

  11. Are they choosing the winners today or just the finalists. And if there just choosing the finalists when are they announcing the winners?

  12. Is any one else nervous about who is going to win. I don’t think I will be able to make it to the top ten. Will you guys tell us if were in the top ten?????? I no im 12th right now

    • Hey Ally-

There is no set deadline to announce the finalists or winners. Let me know if I can help you with anything else!
