In Sweet Evil, by Wendy Higgins, Anna is constantly battling with herself. She wants to lie and cheat and provoke and sin, but she’s always managed to keep herself in check.
Until she meets Kaidan.
Anna is the daughter of a guardian angel and a fallen angel; Kaidan is the son of the demon of Lust. The dark side in her is drawn to him, fully. She wants to let the rest of herself slip, too. When it comes time to choose between the light and the dark, she shouldn’t think of Kaidan: choosing him would mean giving into the dark side forever. The temptation to succumb to her evil half is always with her, and it might prove too great.

Can it be a poem of sorts
Sure- As long as the poem fulfills the requirements of the prompt.
Umm… I’m pretty sure this is the same person but I’m not sure. There’s this girl who wrote a poem, and in a review, somebody revised it for them and the author copied it for their own entry. Is this… I don’t know… legal?
Hey-
Could you email emily@figment.com with a bit more explanation and a link to the story? Thanks!
I loved this book i actually just read it today. FUNNY! I LOVE KAIDEN.
My entry on here doesn’t have a cover and only has one heart. (Basically it’s not updated) Will that effect the judging? I have more hearts now and I’m just concerned that if they don’t show up on here then the judges won’t see that I have more hearts.
Nevermind, it showed up!
It’s funny because your name is Christina, and that’s the name of my book.
I submitted my story in this conest but it hasn’t come up under contest entries. Is there a reason why? Did I do something wrong? Please let me know…
Hey Emily-
There is a slight delay before the entry shows up. It will not show up if the tag is incorrect or if it was posted on Figment before the announcement of the contest. Double check those two things!
So I can’t submit a pre-existing story to a contest?
Not if it has already been posted on Figment, no. Because pre-existing stories will already have hearts, they may not be entered in heart-based contests.
Can it be a short that is already written, even if it still meets the requirements?
All contest entries must be posted to Figment after the announcement of the contest.
Best,
Emily
If we were to write a story where the temptation in fatal to the character in the end would it still count? Or do they have to resist.
The character can succumb to temptation, for sure!
Are you able to use an entry from another contest if it fills the requirements of this contest and the other contest?
Hey Dezi-
A story may only be entered in one contest at a time.
Would I be able to enter it in one, then after the voting is done, put it in a different contest?
Most contests require you to create a new piece on Figment after the announcement of the contest (so no one starts the contest with hearts), but you would be able to submit it to contests that allow you to tag an old piece.
If the story you entered in the contest you’re planning to turn into a novel, can you post the longer version on Figment too, or do you have to wait until the contest is over?
You can post the longer version on Figment, but make sure it is a separate story so the word count on your entry is within the limit!
Does it have to be a new story? Or can it be an old one entered in another contest?
It must have been created on Figment after the announcement of the contest, and it may not currently be in another contest.
Is there a minimum number of words you can put in your story?
No word minimum!
But doesn’t it say 1,200 words of fewer?
Yup! 1200 is the word maximum, but there’s no minimum!
Can the character only be tempted by something or can it be SOMEONE as well?
Either! Something or someone.
I asked a person to swap. I wanted them to read my contest entry. Is that against the rules to just ask for a swap. Or is it only against the rules to ask for a heart? I ‘m so confused!
Hey Ally-
It’s not against the rules to ask for a read or a heart, but people may choose not to read or heart your piece. Make sure you aren’t spamming people with requests, and you should be fine!
Best,
Emily
Hello I was wondering if we are allowed to do swaps asking for others to read are contest entry or look at other contest entries heart like and comment on theirs then ask them if they would checkout ares is that not okay because I have been doing that and I had no idea it wasn’t allowed if it isn’t and u would hate to be disqualified for something like that please reply soon so that I know and will stop if it’s not allowed
Hey Isabel-
You are allowed to ask for reads on your entry, but make sure you aren’t spamming people’s stories or walls.
Best,
Emily
Okay thank you
WHat does spamming mean?
Spamming means sending a repeated incessant, unsolicited message to a large number of users.
I wrote out a description for my entry in this contest and when you can read it ( not the entire thing because it doesn’t fit) if you are looking at all my books on my page, but when you click on that book, only the first two words show up under the description. I would really like people to be able to read my full description so I hope this can be fixed.
Oh, and on another note, what does it mean to spam people’s walls? (I saw something on the questions above ) If I ask a bunch of different people for swap requests, does that count as spamming?
Is there any way you can answer soon?(: My comments always are awaiting moderation (I don’t know why!), and I would really love to find out quickly!
Hey Megan-
Not sure what’s going on with the description, want to email me at emily@figment.com?
Spam means writing the same message on many people’s walls. It’s a large amount of similar and unwanted posts.
ok, two questions.
So it is entirely ok if it’s a poem?
And does it matter what they are tempted by? It can be anything?
It can be a poem as long as it still tells a story. They can be tempted by anything!
How do I lock a group?
Groups can only be made private by verified educators.
Ugh, I want to at least get close to winning, but I see some with 35 hearts and I’m kinda feeling like the literary work I just created will be rejected and unread.
Oh Well.
Hi there. I tagged my post with sweetevilcontest, but i did not receive a pop-up confirmation…
Hey Margaret-
As long as the story was created on Figment after the announcement of the contest and as long as the tag is correct, you’re all set!
Can the story be about someone who tempts others, or does it have to be about someone that’s being tempted?
Hey-
If the story is about someone who tempts others, there should be a character in the story who is being tempted in order to fulfill the prompt.
Is the person with the most hearts automatcily going to win first place?
Nope! Hearts only count in making it to the finals–each finalist is read and judged on merit, not hearts.
Hello, I was wondering if it is allowed to comment on people’s pages and request a heart for this contest? One of the people with several hundred hearts just commented on my page to ask if I would heart her entry. I was wondering if that is allowed?
It is allowed, though spamming people’s walls is not allowed.
What do you mean by spamming, exactly? She did post it on my wall. Is this a rule for all contests or just his particular one? Because I’ve been explicitly told that you’re not allowed to promote your contest pieces when they’re reliant on hearts.
Never mind. I just scrolled up to read someone else’s question. I understand what you mean by spamming now. But I’m still wondering if it applies to every contest?
Hey Lisa-
Anti-spamming is a site-wide policy. Try promoting in the contest promotion forum or the self-promo forum.
I’ve promoted a contest piece on the forum before and I was told that that is not allowed. Did the rules change sitewide?
The rules have changed to allow contest promotion!
Even though it’s past the entry point, can I still EDIT my entry?
We ask that you only edit entries during the entry period.
When will we know if we made it as a finalist or won?
Finalists and winners will be posted on the blog!
