Sweet! Learn Food Writing with Figment!

It can be said that writers feed on language, that they gorge themselves on words. But you know what writers also like? Food. Real food. Usually Nutella-based food.

The best of both worlds? Writing about food. It’s a thriving form of writing that requires a specific skill set, and, for the first time in Figment HISTORY, we’re offering a writing class on the site to help you gain those skills. Peanut Butter and the Pen: Intro to Food Writing will run for six weeks (July 11-August 15). Each week you’ll have new readings, writing assignments, and feedback from your instructor and fellow students.  By the end of the session, you’ll have a portfolio of several polished pieces of original food writing. Tasty!

Sondra Hall, the founder and director of “Take My Word for It!” an acclaimed writing program in the San Francisco Bay Area, is heading up the class. Join fellow Figs in learning and sharpening your edible edicts and your nommable nomenclature. If you’re looking to hone your writing and learn a little this summer, click on for details!

  1. I would love to learn how to write better. Food writing seems interesting and it will expand my styles of writing and help me pick up on new skills. Please consider my application!

  2. Oh jeez, it’s three hundred dollars!? I was hoping this was going to be like the daily themes but on a website. 🙁

  3. Haha, I thought this would be cool, but then I clicked one more time, $300, really? Sorry, but I already have AP classes anyway! Each of those tests are only $87 and I get college credit for them, maybe next time Figment, or not.

  4. This was supposed to be cool if not for that 300$ cost. Taking many ETS tests and applying to college have already cost my family a lot. So another 300$? No. I’d rather write alone on Figment.

  5. This sounds great, but I’m in camp for half of it, and $300 is really out of the question right now…but all you who sign up, have fun! 🙂

  6. I would totally do this, but sadly the class is out of my price range. I wish it would have been cheaper to apply 🙁
