Winners of the Unbreak My Heart Flash-Fiction Contest

Clementine, from Melissa Walker’s Unbreak My Heart, thinks she has it all: a best friend and a new crush she’s falling for. But when it turns out Clem’s best friend is dating her crush, rumors begin to fly and Clem ends up a social outcast.

Just when she thinks things can’t get any worse, her family decides to spend the summer on their sail boat. Clem decides to try to heal her broken heart in the best way she knows: with music.

In honor of Clem and her awesome taste in music, we challenged you to write a story based on a different song each day. You wrote and we sent the 10 finalists to Melissa Walker, who selected a grand prize winner. Figment editors then selected a winner for each day as well. Check out the winners with links to their stories below, and make sure to congratulate them!

Grand Prize Winner:

Closing Time by Mary McCall

Melissa said: “I can see everything in this sceneβ€”from the condensation on the beer glass to the orange color of the skirt that reminds her of him. Beautifully done!”

Congratulations, Mary! You will be receiving a copy of Unbreak My Heart and Small Town Sinners, and a $15 Amazon gift card!

Figment editors chose five daily winners for the contest:

Day 1 Winner: Neon Ghosts by Elena Gould

Day 2 Winner: Messy by Maggie Martin

Day 3 Winner: Strangers by Spandana Myneni

Day 4 Winner: Possibilities by Carly Gordon

Day 5 Winner: Snow Angel by Alice

Congratulations! Each daily winner will receive copies of Unbreak My Heart and Small Town Sinners

  1. Great job guys! I’m disappointed that my story Skinny Love didn’t win day three but your entries were great. πŸ™‚
