Winners of the Dreamless Flash-Fiction Contest

In Dreamless by Josephine Angelini, Helen Hamilton visits some pretty unpleasant places on her journeys through the underworld. Inspired by Dreamless, we hosted a week-long flash fiction contest where we challenged you to write stories set in not-so-cuddly places like an abandoned mansion. We sent the twenty best entries to Josephine Angelini, who picked the grand prize winner. Today, we’re excited to announce the winning stories!

Grand Prize Winner:

The Sandman by Spandana Myneni

Josephine says: “Creepy, original, and a really intriguing take on a complicated character that I’ve loved since Neil Gaiman’s version. I was especially impressed by the way Spandana described the “drop” through the pool of sand, the breaking of the membrane between the worlds, and the entrance into the night sky. Beautifully imagined.”

Congratulations, Spandana! You’ll be receiving copies of Dreamless and Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini as well as a $25 Amazon gift card!

And here are the daily winners, chosen by the Figment editors:

Day 1 Winner: Old Mansion Across the Street by Isabel Filippone

Day 2 Winner: Dinner Sirens by Rhaini

Day 3 Winner: Snow Angels by Phi M.

Day 4 Winner: Not at Home by Allie Miller

Day 5 Winner: Ravenous Earth by XiamenGirl

Awesome job, everyone! Each daily winner will be receiving copies of Dreamless and Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini!
