Karou’s Workshop Challenge Winners

Days of Blood and Starlight CoverInspired by the monstrous revenants, or resurrected soldiers, created by the chimera during their long war with the angels in Laini Taylor’s Days of Blood and Starlight, we challenged you to create a revenant of your own.

The Figment editors read all of your entries, and we’re now pleased to announce the winners of this contest!

Grand Prize: String Them Up by B. D. Legan

“String them up, my love,” you whisper, handing me the twine. “Create a masterpiece.”

I try to smile and reach into the jar—a human incisor emerges within my pale fingers.

“Body of man,” you say. You remove a diamond from your ear and place it on the necklace; it shines beside the pearly tooth. “Deathly beautiful and tragically strong.”

“With the graceful speed of a bird,” I muse, tying on a snowy feather.

“And cunning as a snake,” you hiss, adding iridescent scales.

I pull a rusted nail from my cloak. “He’ll be smart as a tack.”

You sneer and string a dark-as-night chip of stone onto the chain. “Cold as granite.”

I hesitate before pulling off the trinket wrapped in my choker. Quickly, I tie the stark white bone onto the revenant necklace. “And fragile as a wishbone—to know humility.”

“Foolish girl!” you shout, but the deed is done.

Way to go, B. D.! You will receive copies of Days of Blood and Starlight and Daughter of Smoke and Bone (the first book in Laini Taylor‘s trilogy), plus Libba Bray’s The Diviners and Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s Beautiful Creatures.
