Today’s Daily Theme is brought to you by Tahereh Mafi
, author of the popular books, Shatter Me
and Destroy Me
. The third installation of her series, Unravel Me
, follows the teenage Juliette. Juliette has a rare power of touch and is caught in the middle of a war (and two boys) which threaten to not only take her life but also her loved ones.
Tahereh Mafi was born in a small city in Connecticut and currently resides in Orange County, California. She drinks too much caffeine and finds the weather to be just a little too perfect for her taste. When unable to find a book, she can be found reading candy wrappers, coupons, and old receipts. Shatter Me is her first novel. Foreign rights have sold in 23 territories to-date and film rights have been optioned by 20th Century Fox.
Mafi’s theme is about starting fresh and without fear. Try your hand by starting a new writing, and be sure to post your results on Figment!
Daily Theme for February 7, 2013
Writers often struggle with the simple act of just getting started. It takes a lot of self-motivation to sit down and promise yourself you’ll to get some work done. Sometimes inspiration is hard to find –so why not manufacture it?
If you’re fresh out of ideas —or maybe looking for something fresh– here’s a simple trick that’ll help get your imagination going again.
1. Open up a new word document.
2. Write down ten opening lines to what could be ten completely different novels. There’s no pressure to make them perfect, and no pressure to use them. Just let your mind wander; think outside the box; give yourself license to get a little crazy and creative. Start at the beginning, the middle, the moon –wherever you like! Write with no reservations and see where it leads you.
You never know, you might find a sentence that sticks –and maybe one that will inspire you to keep writing.
